Fa’amatagi: From Whence the Wind Blows is a love letter to the people and culture of my parents. This is a documentary poetics project that draws upon research of the Mau Movement, archives from the New Zealand government, and personal ethnographies with my own parents who are both of Samoan descent. I curated several pieces of art from book collector Alexander Turnbull and photographer Alfred J. Tattersall. This project delves into the effects of colonialism on a previously isolated people. The purpose of this study is to answer the question: How can reflection via an autoethnographic approach promote sought-after outcomes of a semester studying abroad? Through an anthropological lens, I completed field work, kept field notes, and wrote a reflexive blog to navigate the social processes of learning to belong in another place within the context of a multicultural environment of study abroad program with Erasmus students. Through autoethnography as a methodology and a text, I utilized linguistic analysis to identify key themes that represent my transformative experience. The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversaries of the Wilderness Act and the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act. AMC and partners develop an outdoor recreation management certificate program with White Mountains Community College. Federal government issues new accessibility guidelines for outdoor areas. A task force works to control parties at Bulls Bridge in Connecticut. AMC receives a large grant to improve trails in the Moosehead Lake region. Memories of summer 2014 near Mount Moriah by that season’s Imp Shelter and Tentsite caretaker.

The 2013 pre-monsoon season in the Nepal Himalaya included first ascents of Jagdula, Dragmorpa Ri, and others, and a record number of deaths on several peaks, including eight on Everest. Briton Kenton Cool and Sherpa Dorje Gyalzen traversed three peaks in the Everest group. Sixteen Nepalese died in the Khumbu Icefall below Everest on April 18, 2014.
