L'Image Des Réfugiés Et Des Personnes Déplacées Dans La Fiction Africaine Francophone, Augustin H. Asaah
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
In their capacity as moralists and committed intellectuals, African Francophone writers such as C.C. Sow, N.N. Ndjekery, M.S. Keita, F. Couao-Zotti, Ahmadou Kourouma, Nimrod and E. Dongala portray various images of refugees and internally displaced persons in their works. This depiction is driven by the perceived need to humanize these displaced members of society by establishing moral/affective bridges between unfortunate members of society and readers. It is also sustained by the desire to reduce the damage caused by wars and natural disasters, as well as the need to reveal the plural identities of humans to the world.

Fire And Ice, Anne Wilson M. Gregory

Fire and Ice is comprised of five stories, each of which features a female protagonist at a crossroads in her life. Each of these women pursues a quest for personal fulfillment in the face of her shifting familial and emotional landscape. The stories deal primarily with domestic issues, such as childbearing, marital relationships, aging parents and personal faith. Though each woman feels alone in her individual incidence of alienation and loss, the stories imply the universality of each of these life-altering situations. All of the stories are set in modern-day Virginia; four are contemporary, and one, Fire, spans the decade …

That literature has not entirely lost its means when faced with great human tragedies is a fact widely debated when it comes to the Holocaust. This text relies on a discussion of the unspeakable in order to reflect on the texts written about Rwanda’s genocide. Reading those texts’ thresholds reveals a tension of writing between history and fiction, “devoir de mémoire” and near resignation of speech.

Trackers is a collection of short stories that attest to the oddities and complexities found even in the non-exotic middle-class American suburbs. The characters in these stories experience disappointments that result from the physical and emotional distancing of families. In "Tokens," a woman's attempts at revenge on her cheating husband are unsatisfying because she ends up feeling more alone than before. In "Trackers," eleven-year old Richard hunts for Bigfoot as he and his family cope with the emotional aftermath of his sister's suicide attempt. The 2004 edition of The Broad River Review was edited by C. V. Davis and Jennifer Menster. The publication contains fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, and photography by student, regional, and national writers and artists. The cover photograph, "Yellow Leaves," was taken by Lee Adams. The winner of the J. Calvin Koontz poetry award, given annually for a portfolio of poetry to a senior English major, is Chris Armstrong.
