The following poems were written in sentences formed by spilling milk onto objects of ritual significance. In the epic tradition of crumbs. Surfaces offered their chamberlets with the insistence of a larynx. In the shapes of: My Father, The Dead And Their Voices. There was milk, marionette drudgery, implacable lambs. Mice feature greatly– on toast, making bags. Mouse cream. Fragments of lost texts that were divined. A lullabye. These poems inhabit the formal and rhetorical devices of woolgathering, a loculus, and marginalia.

Sue is a collection of poetry investigating the cyclical nature of grief through the lens of Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s schemas of paranoid and reparative readings. The poems employ motifs such as hunting, disease, and human remains to capture the temporal disorientation experienced in the wake of loss. Via an extensive use of metaphor and recurring poem titles, Sue exploits the multivalence of language to conjure a dense field of meaning, meant to capture the undecidability of language noted by philosopher Jacques Derrida. The Pinocchio Boy is a series of short stories/memoirs and poems about my experiences as a Transgender and Gay man. Structured in five parts, I explore my childhood, young adulthood, and adulthood. My collection offers me an insight into what made me who I am today. Four Junes is a poetry collection of elegies and pastoral elegies that aims to discuss and explore the interconnectedness of the body within the frame of health and illness to the landscape of long-term and short-term dwelling and ideas of home. Through fractured frames of home oppositional in landscape and environment, the collection discusses how the body functions and exists in health and unhealth and explores the reactions and processing of half-deaths involved in cancer, and specifically, stem cell transplants as treatment for terminal illnesses. This poetry manuscript explores loneliness, sexuality, violence, gender/fluidity, the self, the idea of the self, and American capitalism with an irreverent and dry humor. Tragicomic in tone, the poems balance a sense of dire exuberance with personal history and anecdote ranging from sentimental to sarcastic to withering. Located in New Jersey, the manuscript engages with local history, lore, and culture. A wide range of references bridge various ends of the literary canon, while the poems likewise reach for referents from fine art, music, TV, and film. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the idea of nuance in culturally oversimplified narratives, including fraught paternal relationships, sexual assault and non-consent dynamics, childhood and young adulthood LGBTQ+ experiences, and everyday life and mental health in the climate crisis. Drawing upon the 20th century tradition of short poetry and minimalism, this thesis attempts to demonstrate the frustration of post-internet media culture’s fixation on providing a complete account of a complex issue in extremely limited linguistic space. The Use And Development Of Mathematics Within Creative Literature, Toby S C Peres
Journal of Humanistic Mathematics
This paper presents a study on the extent to which creative literature been used as a vessel to carry forward the development of mathematical thought. The role of mathematics as a driving force for literature is highlighted, and while many examples exist that clearly show an attempt to disperse mathematical ideas, with Lewis Carroll, OuLiPo and ancient poetry considered, the argument that the sole purpose of the writings was for the sake of mathematical development is not clear-cut.

Brain Candy incorporates paintings, written pieces, and poetry from all the medical classes at Wayne State University School of Medicine to shed light on the creative process in medicine, the city of Detroit, and the experiences of health care providers. The first edition of Brain Candy was published online and in print in 2009, produced by a generous grant by the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). The edition featured poetry, nonfiction, short fiction, and different types of artwork. With generous funding support from alumnus Dr. Tom Janisse, Class of 1975, the journal continues to be in print since 2009.
