Ako ay May Kikì/I Have a Vagina is a two-part book intended for young children, parents and caregivers for children. The first and main part of the book is a short story (with appropriate illustrations) that features a five-year old girl narrating to the readers some of the good toilet and perineal hygiene habits that she learned from her mother, so that genitourinary diseases could be prevented. She also shares with the readers the appropriate Filipino clinical term for vagina, as well as the important notions of privacy, autonomy and personal safety vis-à-vis her private part, for example, she underscores …

The present essay attempts to interrogate the mythic figure of Mebuyan in her refractions, as in Agnes Miclat-Cacayan’s critical and literary engagements, as accompanied by Aster Delgado’s illustration and Sadhana Bux’s From the Womb of Mebuyan (1998); parts of Agnes Arellano’s Tatlong Buddhang Ina (1996), Project Pleiades (2007), and Project Pleiades 2 (2018); Rita Gudiño’s Mebuyan sa Idalmunon (2017); Kublai Millan’s Goddess (2002); and Robert Feleo’s illustration in The Soul Book (1991) and the aforementioned vitrina Mebuyan (2009). The purpose of this thesis is to take a more profound and nuanced look into the effects of diversity in transmedia storytelling (also known as transmedia narrative or multiplatform storytelling) on society, more specifically, how the representation in these stories affect the minority groups that interact with transmedia. This thesis investigates the depiction of minority groups in transmedia storytelling and the influence of identifiable characters and plotlines. It covers depictions of how Latinx men have been stereotyped in today’s society. This paper explores the use of conceptual metaphors (CMs) in two works of creative nonfiction, namely Laurie Halse Anderson’s (2019) Shout and Elissa Washuta’s (2014) My Body is a Book of Rules. Anderson’s (2019) poetic memoir centers on her experiences with sexual assault throughout her childhood and the process of writing her young adult novel Speak (1999). Washuta (2014) writes on her experiences with rape and mental illness via prose. Wine Journey: Tasting Dwelling Learning at The Kitchen Table

It happened on a weekday evening. Dinner was Pasta e Fagioli and I would have chosen a wine from Tuscany. But, in my cellar a thought arose to explore, and a 19-year-old 1999 Paitin di Pasquero-Elia Barbaresco Sorì Paitin ended up on the table. A new pairing 1 plus a wine from a new-to-me producer I had waited 15 years for it to mature provided opportunities. Pasta e Fagioli should be a fine accompanist to the wonderful softening taste of a maturing Barbaresco from the good 1999 vintage. The pairing worked well enough to repeat. That was merely the prelude.

This essay takes up Etheridge Knight’s haiku as a means to trace his “major metaphor” of prison as a form of postcolonial cross-cultural haiku poetics. Knight’s haiku often focus on those that are voiceless along with the systems that work to disenfranchise them, using their experiences and conditions to engage the unequal power dynamics silently perpetuating inequality. In mapping out the explicit and implicit walls that position the hierarchies present in Knight’s haiku, and connecting these to his published comments on the role and function of haiku within his own poetic imagination, we can better understand Knight’s interest in re-imagining …

Skin is an autobiographical book of free verse poetry written from the point of view of a female narrator. The poems in this book artfully depict both the futile struggles and moments of euphoria and self-revelation of a young woman who grew up in a broken home.
