This collection of “aphlorisms” resulted from a search in my old manuscripts. At that time I was preoccupied everyday with noting down in my little notebook various interesting-to-me expressions that I heard or that came to my mind. Etymologically, aphorism + floral = aph(L)orism, which is a short reflection written on a floral design, or a short poetry accompanied by an artistic background. They are colorful contemplations. Maximus in minimis (Lat.) means very much in very little [max in min], or condensed thought, or ideating essence. Gertrude Stein writes: "Pink looks as pink, pink looks as pink, as pink as pink supposes, suppose." Dzvinia Orlowsky's poems in her new book are strung along the tension of a black thread stretched to near snapping as her tenacious, feisty speaker refuses for all women the typecast as another breast cancer statistic, another bumper sticker pink bow. “Nine Months with Elvis” is a coming-of-age travel memoir about a time the author spends as a drummer in a theater company, touring the U.S. and Mexico. The writer, who previously lived a sheltered life, finds he is separated from all that is well-known to him. He documents with humor and pathos the physical miles he travels with the group, along with the personal growth he experiences. The Ouroboros Father Project is an exploration the author's relationship with his dead father, the authors' reaction to his father's death and the author's dealing with the aftermath of his father's legacy as a child molester. The complex story of this relationship and the author's exploration of his own feelings is told in several different genres. This relationship is told in three poems, an essay, and, finally, a four act play and each piece centers around the ancient symbol of the ouroboros.
