This is a collection of six short stories about family dynamics. The stories follow a rough chronology of family development, beginning with two stories of early family life. In "Wedding Gift" a recently divorced young woman severs a lingering emotional attachment to her ex-husband when she returns a wedding present. In "Strolling," the young female protagonist questions her own fitness as a mother when she witnesses a near-tragedy involving a stranger's child in a stroller. This thesis explores the importance of restlessness in revision from the perspective of a writer and teacher of writing. This phenomenon, which naturally recurs throughout the writing process, is key to understanding what effective revision is and how to do it most effectively. The thesis has a secondary focus on multigenre writing because it offers a powerful means for understanding revision and conducting it authentically. The image of the long distance runner is one that has been present in literature as far back as the writings of the ancient Greeks. In this creative thesis, a collection of short stories and poems, the image of the distance runner is delved into and fleshed out. Stories, paired with poems, represent the different seasons of the year, and the work as a whole presents the runner's year. Throughout the works, the act of running and the running lifestyle work as metaphors for the lives of the characters portrayed.

My project. Dear Beyond, a collection of poetry, examines the connection between landscape—both internal and external, or private and public—and environment. My poetry reflects my own unique background and my struggles with emplacement, or the placing of oneself in any particular landscape. It aims to challenge dominant paradigms of voice, expression, and even inquiry; it questions traditional, systematic forms of inquiry such as the Cartesian idea of an essential separation between object and subject.
