The neoliberal society we live in encourages a constant maximization of the “project of the self.” The tradition of Christian mysticism, centered on self-denial and passivity, provides an alternative understanding of the self. In this essay, I draw testimonial and theoretical accounts of mysticism from the autobiography of a 16th-century Spanish nun, Teresa of Ávila, and essays from a 20th-century French philosopher, Simone Weil. By bringing these two authors in conversation, I hope to illuminate three aspects of self-effacement in the Christian mystical tradition. Dostoyevsky's Underground Man embodies the contradictions of Determinism and Rational Egoism in 19th-century Russia, exposing the flaws of these ideologies through satire. Does the use of media strategies help social movements or mass protest movements in Southeast Asia achieve their goals? The prominent study in this area argues that social media, in particular, has done more harm than good for grassroots movements. Tufekci (2017) argues that social media provides little help compared to the regime. The book describes the historical context for the Scaramouche tragic pantomime created by Poul Knudsen and Jean Sibelius in 1913. The pantomime had numerous productions in various European countries between 1922 and 1977, and the book examines all of them according to all available evidence. สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้จัดทำขึ้นเพื่อศึกษาและหาแนวทางการแปลกริยาไร้ประธาน “ให้” ที่แสดงมาลาบอกเล่า มาลาสั่ง และมาลาอนุญาตใน พระราชบัญญัติส่งเสริมการพัฒนาและคุ้มครองสถาบันครอบครัว พ.ศ. 2562 จากภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ โดยมีสมมติฐานว่า กริยาไร้ประธาน “ให้” เป็นคำแสดงมาลาบอกเล่า มาลาสั่ง และมาลาอนุญาต และในการแปลกริยาดังกล่าวจากภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษจะขึ้นอยู่กับประเภทของมาลา โดยจะต้องเลือกคำแสดงมาลาที่สอดคล้องกันในภาษากฎหมายอังกฤษ จากการศึกษาพบกริยาไร้ประธาน “ให้” ในตัวบททั้งสิ้น 74 จุด แบ่งเป็นโครงสร้าง ให้ + (กรรม) + กริยา 60 จุด และ (กรรม) + ให้ + กริยา 14 จุด ไม่ละกรรม 55 จุด และละกรรม 19 จุด โดยสามารถจำแนกมาลาออกเป็น 4 ประเภท ได้แก่ 1) มาลาสั่ง 52 จุด 2) มาลาบอกเล่า 15 จุด 3) มาลาอนุญาต 6 จุด และ 4) มาลาสั่ง + อนุญาต 1 จุด กริยาไร้ประธาน "ให้" ที่พบสามารถแปลโดยใช้คำแสดงมาลาที่สอดคล้องกันในภาษากฎหมายอังกฤษ 60 จุด อีก 11 จุดต้องปรับเป็นคำชนิดอื่นเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับโครงสร้างประโยคภาษาอังกฤษ และอีก 3 จุดไม่ได้ทำการแปลเพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงความซ้ำซ้อน กล่าวโดยสรุปได้ว่ากริยาไร้ประธาน “ให้” ในตัวบทส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในโครงสร้าง ให้ + (กรรม) + กริยา (81.08%) ไม่ละกรรม (74.32%) แสดงมาลาสั่ง (70.27%) และสามารถแปลโดยใช้คำแสดงมาลาที่สอดคล้องกันในภาษากฎหมายอังกฤษ (81.08%) ผลการวิจัยสอดคล้องกับสมมติฐานที่ตั้งไว้และยังสอดคล้องกับงานวิจัยที่ผ่านมาซึ่งระบุว่ากริยาไร้ประธาน “ให้” ในภาษากฎหมายไทยสื่อความหมายสั่งและอนุญาต งานวิจัยนี้ยังพบประเด็นที่น่าสนใจเพิ่มเติม 2 ประการ ได้แก่ …

It is shown time and again that history repeats itself, and the stories of the Bible reappear in the modern world, both real and (crime) fictional. Despite not being solely about trauma, Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale's (1985) is written through the voice of a traumatized narrator. Offred's narration in this novel is unreliable, shifting between past and present and sharing multiple possibilities of events. This narrative voice accentuates the uncertainty and tension within this story. Offred's unreliable narration reveals her inner psychological state. Through readings of medical-humanity and cognitive literary theory, this thesis examines how trauma alters Offred’s narrative voice in The Handmaid’s Tale. The story of Túrin Turambar goes back to the end of the First World War, and Tolkien continued to work on it through the 1950s. Later versions repeatedly describe Túrin’s sister Niënor figuratively—as or like—a hunted deer, especially after her enchantment by the dragon Glaurung. Tolkien identified Sigurd the Volsung, Oedipus, and the Finnish Kullervo as sources for Túrin, however, the motif of a maiden enchanted as a deer does not derive from those sources. When Sam is near despair because he cannot find Frodo, Sam sings a song that makes reference to “merry finches.” What is the significance of this phrase in his lyrics? To appeal to a contemporary global readership, Danton Remoto in his English translation of Lope K. Santos’s Banaag at Sikat omits much of the original’s political passages. Such an approach to translation, however, hollows out elements of the original. Following the work of Annette Damayanti Lienau and Akshya Saxena, this essay understands colonial and vernacular languages as dialectically interdependent. In examining the musical Rent by Jonathan Larson (1995) and its film adaptation by Chris Columbus (2005), most scholarly work and analyses have focused on the work’s identity as a queer text. I assert that elements of this musical have been overlooked for its depth of racial and class hierarchies. Utilizing sociological theory and interracial relationships, I will examine characters and musical numbers to explore diversity and class positioning.
