This dissertation examines the work of contemporary Mapuche poets Adriana Pinda, Maribel Mora Curriao and Roxana Miranda Rupailaf, alongside Basque poets Leire Bilbao and Miren Agur Meabe, who write partially or entirely in their native languages— Mapudungun and Basque— as a form of resistance against the historical and ongoing imposition of Spanish. Through their poetry, these poets defend their identities and cultural heritage, invoking their matrilineal lineage to remember and heal. They also subvert traditional Catholic prayers by modifying them into invocations to Goddesses, casting spells of liberation of the female body, denouncing patriarchal violence and recreating alternative worlds. สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อจัดทำประมวลศัพท์เรื่องกาแฟพิเศษ โดยรวบรวมคำศัพท์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับกระบวนการแปรรูปกาแฟ การคั่วกาแฟ การบดกาแฟ การชงกาแฟ ตลอดจนการประเมินคุณภาพกาแฟ จุดมุ่งหมายหลักคือเพื่อศึกษาทฤษฎีทางศัพทวิทยาที่เกี่ยวข้อง รวมถึงระเบียบวิธีและกระบวนการจัดทำประมวลศัพท์ พร้อมทั้งจัดทำประมวลศัพท์เรื่องกาแฟพิเศษอย่างเป็นระบบ เพื่อให้ผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องในศาสตร์กาแฟพิเศษ รวมถึงผู้ที่ทำงานด้านกาแฟ นักแปล ล่าม และผู้สนใจสามารถนำประมวลศัพท์นี้ไปใช้เพื่อการอ้างอิงได้ในการจัดทำประมวลศัพท์นี้ อาศัยการศึกษาและนำทฤษฎีทางศัพทวิทยาและแนวทางการจัดทำประมวลศัพท์ของนักศัพทวิทยาหลายท่านมาปรับใช้ โดยกระบวนการทำงานแบ่งออกเป็น 5 ขั้นตอนสำคัญ ได้แก่ (1) การกำหนดหัวข้อ ขอบเขตของการวิจัย กลุ่มเป้าหมาย และวัตถุประสงค์ในการจัดทำประมวลศัพท์ (2) การศึกษาทฤษฎีและระเบียบวิธีในการจัดทำประมวลศัพท์ (3) การรวบรวมและศึกษาข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับกาแฟพิเศษเพื่อนำมาจัดทำคลังข้อมูลภาษาและคัดศัพท์จากคลังข้อมูลภาษา (4) การกำหนดมโนทัศน์สัมพันธ์ระหว่างศัพท์ที่คัดเลือก และ (5) การจัดทำบันทึกข้อมูลศัพท์เบื้องต้นและบันทึกข้อมูลศัพท์เพื่อนำเสนอศัพท์เทียบเคียงในภาษาไทยผลลัพธ์ของงานวิจัยนี้คือ ประมวลศัพท์เรื่องกาแฟพิเศษซึ่งประกอบด้วยศัพท์ทั้งหมด 37 คำ โดยนำเสนอเป็นกลุ่มมโนทัศน์สัมพันธ์และลำดับของมโนทัศน์สัมพันธ์ โดยการนำเสนอแต่ละศัพท์ประกอบด้วยศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษ ศัพท์เทียบเคียงในภาษาไทย คำนิยาม ประเภททางไวยากรณ์ หมวดหมู่ บริบทอ้างอิงที่พบศัพท์ดังกล่าว มโนทัศน์สัมพันธ์พร้อมประเภทของความสัมพันธ์ รูปทางภาษาอื่นของศัพท์และข้อมูลอ้างอิง เพื่อให้เห็นลักษณะและความสัมพันธ์ ตลอดจนรูปแบบการใช้ของศัพท์ดังกล่าวอย่างชัดเจน อันเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการใช้ศัพท์เฉพาะในเชิงวิชาการและการสื่อสารในแวดวงได้อย่างถูกต้อง

งานวิจัยภายใต้หัวข้อ รัฐ กลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ และความสัมพันธ์เชิงอำนาจในวรรณกรรมและภาพยนตร์ผีไทยมุ่งศึกษาการนำเสนอตัวละครกลุ่มคนชายขอบ โดยเฉพาะกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ ที่ปรากฏตัวในรูปแบบของภูตผีปีศาจจากตัวบทคัดสรร ผู้วิจัยตีความและวิเคราะห์ตัวบททั้งวรรณกรรมและภาพยนตร์แนวแฟนตาซีสยองขวัญในฐานะพื้นที่ของการเล่าเรื่อง เรื่องเล่าที่ถูกนำเสนอทั้งหมดเป็นผลผลิตทางสังคมและถือเป็นปรากฏการณ์เฉพาะที่ผู้เล่าทั้งผู้ประพันธ์และผู้กำกับเชื่อมโยงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างกลุ่มชาติพันธ์กับภูตผีปีศาจภายใต้บริบทสังคมร่วมสมัย ทั้งนี้ ผู้วิจัยได้สำรวจตรวจสอบและรวบรวมตัวบทเพื่อศึกษาโดยมองหาเกณฑ์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างตัวบทในประเด็นข้างต้น คือการผูกโยงภูตผีปีศาจกับกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ ได้แก่ ตุ๊กตา (2530) ของวาณิช จรุงกิจอนันต์ ตะเคียน (2546) กํากับโดยเฉลิม วงศ์พิมพ์ ห้าแพร่ง ตอน Backpackers (2552) กํากับโดยทรงยศ สุขมากอนันต์ หญิงเสา (2554) ของกล้า สมุทวณิช ลัดดาแลนด์ (2554) กํากับโดยโสภณ ศักดาพิศิษฏ์ Karma ตัดกรรมต่อตาย (2555) ของปองวุฒิ GTH Side Stories ตอนมะขิ่น (2556) กํากับโดยโสภณ ศักดาพิศิษฏ์ ผีทวงคืน (2557) กํากับโดยอำนาจ แตงสมบูรณ์และศักดิ์ชาย ดีนาน บองสรันโอน (2558) กํากับโดยศิวาภรณ์ (หรือมนัสนันท์) พงษ์สุวรรณและ Tweet Trace ภาพลวงตาย (2559) ของธุวัฒธรรพ์ ตัวบทคัดสรรทั้ง 10 เรื่องช่วยชี้ให้เห็นความสำคัญของการเลือกสรรอัตลักษณ์ผีแต่ละชนิดเพื่อนำเสนอภาพแทนกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์แต่ละกลุ่ม รวมถึงการสอดแทรกประเด็นปรากฏการณ์สังคมภายใต้กลวิธีการเล่าเรื่องอย่างเฉพาะเจาะจงที่ทั้งแตกต่างและสัมพันธ์กันระหว่างตัวบท นอกจากนี้ ตัวบทคัดสรรยังเผยให้เห็นร่องรอยประวัติศาสตร์บาดแผลที่ขาดหายไปในประวัติศาสตร์กระแสหลัก โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งอารมณ์ความรู้สึกและบทบาทของคนชายขอบกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ท่ามกลางประวัติศาสตร์การพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจและสังคมสู่ระบบทุนนิยมของประเทศไทยตั้งแต่ช่วงทศวรรษ 2520 จนถึงทศวรรษ 2550

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ของแม่ผู้อพยพจากสงครามเวียดนามกับลูกชายเควียร์เวียดนามพลัดถิ่นในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาในตัวบทคัดสรร โดยมุ่งสำรวจให้เห็นบทบาทของบาดแผลที่เชื่อมร้อยคนสองรุ่นเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน รวมทั้งการแสวงหาพื้นที่แห่งการเยียวยาสำหรับกลุ่มคนชายขอบ กลุ่มตัวบทคัดสรรได้แก่ On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous (2019) ของ โอเชียน วอง (Ocean Vuong) The Magic Fish (2020) ของ จุง เล เหงวียน (Trung Le Nguyen) และ Things We Lost to the Water (2021) ของ เอริค เหงวียน (Eric Nguyen) จากการศึกษาพบว่า ตัวบทคัดสรรมิเพียงถ่ายทอดบาดแผลจากสงครามเวียดนามซึ่งทำให้ตัวละครแม่สูญเสียและถูกตัดขาดจากรากเหง้าในบ้านเกิด พร้อมทั้งต้องเผชิญกับอคติทางชาติพันธุ์ เพศ และชนชั้นเรื่อยมา แต่ในขณะเดียวกันก็นำเสนอกระบวนการเรียนรู้บาดแผลจากสงครามเวียดนามของลูกชายเควียร์ อันนำมาสู่การทำความเข้าใจสภาวะพลัดถิ่นของตนเองในฐานะชาวอเมริกันเชื้อสายเวียดนาม นอกจากนั้นตัวบทคัดสรรยังนำเสนอบาดแผลจากการมีเพศวิถีแบบเควียร์ของลูกชายอันนำมาซึ่งความรู้สึกผิดแผกในครอบครัวและชุมชนคนเวียดนาม และการถูกกดทับในสังคมอเมริกันที่ยังคงมีอคติต่อกลุ่มรักเพศเดียวกัน อย่างไรก็ดี แม้บาดแผลของแม่กับลูกชายเควียร์จะขับเน้นให้เห็นสภาวะ “ไร้บ้าน” อันเป็นประสบการณ์และอารมณ์ความรู้สึกที่ตัวละครแบ่งปันร่วมกัน แต่การเรียนรู้บาดแผลซึ่งกันและกันของตัวละครยังเป็นพลังสร้างสรรค์อันนำไปสู่การแสวงหา “บ้าน” อันเป็นพื้นที่ของการเยียวยาและเอื้อให้อัตลักษณ์พลัดถิ่นที่มีความแตกต่างหลากหลายสามารถดำรงอยู่ร่วมกันอีกด้วย

Before the outbreak of World War I, poet Wilfred Owen studied Greek and Roman literature, which presented him with idealized notions of patriotism, glory, and sacrifice. Influenced by classical texts such as The Iliad and the writings of Horace, these ideals of heroism left him unprepared for the brutal realities of anonymous warfare and for what it meant to be a “hero” in the twentieth century. In his poem “Dulce et Decorum Est,” Owen draws on his classical education to challenge the romanticized ideals of heroic sacrifice and glory. It is estimated that in 1500, the year the Portuguese arrived in America, there was a population of 2,431,000 inhabitants, according to historian John Hemming (1978), who occupied the lands that we now know as Brazil. These peoples had their own culture whose cosmology was destroyed and erased over time by a violent process of colonization. Even though entire groups were decimated, much of their influence is still alive in Brazilian culture. This influence can be found in vocabulary, cuisine, and even religious practices. Building upon comparative principles, this semantic reading of Jun’ichirō Tanizaki’s essay In Praise of Shadows and J.M.G. Le Clézio’s early writings illustrates how both the Franco-Mauritian author and the Japanese writer problematize modern Western perception laden with concepts stifling flexible imagination through the mysterious worldview of light/darkness. They also simultaneously express the hope that another way of life leading to liberation is possible. Delving into the spiritual confinement of the subject, they demonstrate how keeping rich creativity within one’s heart can be an escape from a stagnant society. I examine how narrative and personal completion manifest—and are continually unsettled—in The Canterbury Tales and The Waves. Though separated by centuries and written within vastly different literary traditions, both texts explore the tension between fragmentation and wholeness: the ways in which stories and characters can be constructed from partial, shifting materials, and the ways in which the illusion of completeness can mask deeper absences (holes). Drawing on Woolf’s own theories of reading and character—and her sense that readers instinctively create “rickety and ramshackle” wholes from scattered impressions—I will consider how each text engages with the paradox of narrative closure. …

“Beyond Catharsis: The Evolution of Popular Tragedy in Video Game Narratives,” establishes a connection between traditions of Tragedy and video game narratives, arguing that the ways in which tragedy manifests within interactive media is an extension and development of previous, more formal understandings of Tragedy. Using Oxenfree (2016), Elden Ring (2022), and Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023), this thesis claims video games feature adaptations of traditional tragedy and catharsis that expand the genre. This thesis explores literary phenomenology through the lens of fictional world-building and borrowing, integrating psychoanalytic play theories and reader response criticism, primarily through the works of D.W. Winnicott, Stanley Fish, and Wolfgang Iser. This thesis explores William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying through the lens of comparative mythology, arguing that the novel constructs a counter-myth that challenges dominant Western narratives. By engaging with non-Western mythological traditions—particularly Proto-Indo European, Hindu, and Indigenous cosmologies—the study reveals how Faulkner embeds symbolic structures that transcend Christian and Greco-Roman frameworks. Using semiology and structuralist frameworks developed by Ferdinand de Saussure, Claude Lévi-Strauss, and Roland Barthes, the analysis deciphers a mythopoetic narrative that refocuses marginalized myths to destabilize binary oppositions such as Christian/Pagan, civilized/uncivilized, and male creation myths with female creation myths. Teachers of AP courses have to balance passing on love of the subject matter and accomplishing the more pragmatic goals of the course. I have found that in the English classroom those two goals can complement one another when specific approaches are taken to teaching. This article explores those moments when humanity and pragmatics collide in the classroom and provides suggestions for navigating these sometimes conflicting goals.

Voicing a stirring call for readers to reconsider the silence and lacunae that are traditionally attributed to infancy, in her latest monograph, Julie Singer situates infancy as both an essential critical framework and an instructive, illuminative methodology through which a gaping archival silence can be rectified-that silence being literary representations of the medieval child, and specifically, the spoken life of the medieval child. Dante And The Nine Worthies: Glory Or Fame?, Thomas L. Cooksey

In Paradiso 18, Dante is introduced by Cacciaguida, to eight martial heroes: Joshua, Judas Maccabaeus, Roland, Charlemagne, William of Orange, Renouard, Godfrey of Bouillon, and Robert Guiscard. Joined by Cacciaguida they form a group of nine, suggesting that Dante is playing with the topos of the Nine Worthies, popular in chivalric literature. While there are various prototypes, the canonical version of the Nine was codified by Jacques de Longuyon in his romance Voeux du paon (The Vow of the Peacock), appearing around 1312, a date tantalizingly close to the composition of the Paradiso.
