The Pull Of Home: Revisiting Homi Bhabha And Stuart Hall Through Elefanten Im Garten And Au Pays, Varol Kahveci

In this study I argue that existing theoretical frameworks and approaches evade, efface, ignore and obscure the role of “home” and “roots” for diasporic identities. I contend that while the models of identity draw attention to “hybridity,” the material ontology of the migrant body cannot be reduced to a mere psychological phenomenon of “hybridity.” My critique of the effacement of “home” in the contemporary post-colonial and migration studies problematizes Homi Bhabha and Stuart Hall by disputing the celebratory metaphorization of migrant subjects as fluid, uprooted, and deterritorialized. Situating Digital Archives, Michelle R. Warren

This essay is the introduction to an essay collection about the Middle English Prose Brut manuscript purchased by Dartmouth College in 2006. I consider how the competing pressures of access and preservation condition scholarship in medieval studies. I suggest several analogies between the digital humanities in general, digital philology in medieval studies, and the historical practices of medieval writers: hacking, dark archive, and prosthesis.

This essay describes the conservation process of the Dartmouth Brut manuscript: Dartmouth College, Rauner Special Collections Library, MS 003183. The format alternates between the observations and descriptions of the conservator, Deborah Howe, and those of medievalists Michelle Warren. The essay includes photos of Deborah's process in making a fragile fifteenth-century manuscript useable in the twenty-first century.

The Political Connection In Literature: A Study Of Four Socialist Novels, James W. Hoffman
Comparative Literature Undergraduate Senior Theses
This thesis is a comparative analysis of four socialist novels, two from Cuba and two from the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Both of the German works are by Christa Wolf, Der Geteilte Himmel (Divided Heaven, 1963) and Nachdenken aber Christa T. (The Quest for Christa T., 1968). The Cuban novels are Memorias del subdesarrollo (Inconsolable Memories-- literally, Memories of Underdevelopment, 1965) by Edmundo Desnoes, and La última mujer y el próximo combate (The Last Woman and the Next Battle, 1971) by Manuel Cofiño López. The goal of analysis is to try to understand the relationship between these works and socialism …
