This paper looks at the continued need for human translation and subtitling. As the world becomes more globally connected, particularly in regards to reality television, more than solely a translation of language is required. The lens of reality television demonstrates the need for both a translation of culture as well as language. This thesis will look specifically at the Netflix program, Made in Mexico. It will focus on the areas of regionalism and metalinguistic content, explicit language, code-switching, Spanglish, and gender confusion in pronoun use from Spanish to English.
