In 1979, an excavation was conducted at Horbat ‘En Tut, on the western slopes of Giv’at Sha’ul (map ref. 216/632), following a construction project on Giv’at Sh’aul Bet. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums in cooperation with the Center for Field Studies of the Society for the Protection of Nature, was directed by J. Gat, with the assistance of A. Avishar and Y. Eshet (Center for Field Studies) and Y. Vatkin (Surveying).

In the winter of 1979–1980, an excavation was conducted on a slope descending toward the Yifʻat Stream, north of Kibbutz Sarid, under the direction of A. Raban. The excavation was prompted by the exposure of six tombs, as well as walls and floors of residential structures, uncovered by the rains.

In September 1979, a salvage excavation was conducted at Kibbutz Negba under the direction of G. Edelstein, following damage to the roof of a tomb during agricultural work. The entrance to the tomb, located on the north side, was found blocked with stones. Steps led down toward the entrance.

In 1979, an archaeological excavation was conducted at Har Lavan under the direction of A. de Groot. The excavation exposed the remains of a circular structure, possibly an enclosure. Within the structure, a concentration of pottery sherds and flint artifacts was documented.

The remains of the aqueduct were intermittently visible over approximately 120 m on the surface west of Sussita, extending as far as the Sussita stream.

In 1979, an excavation was conducted at er-Ras, southwest of Shu’fat, under the direction of G. Edelstein. The excavation revealed a rectangular structure constructed of large limestone blocks. The building comprised a partially roofed section alongside a series of adjoining courtyards.

The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by M. Prausnitz.

In February 1979, an excavation was conducted at the ancient cemetery in Tel Bira (map ref. 21628/75630), following mining in the quarry east of Tel Bira, near the Tamra–Shfaram road. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by Y. Ben Yosef with the assistance of Y. Vatkin and M. Tsuya (surveying and plans). A burial cave was exposed in the excavation.

In July–August 1979, an excavation was conducted at Shave Ziyyon under the direction of M. Prausnitz and Y. Ben Yosef, following the discovery of ancient building walls during the laying of foundations for modern construction. The excavation was carried out in two areas, adjacent to a previously excavated church site on their eastern side.

In September 1979, a salvage excavation was conducted in the courtyard of the youth hostel at Tel Ḥai under the direction of G. Edelstein. Burial caves were exposed after being damaged during the quarrying of a pit for the construction of a shelter. According to the excavation diary, three burial caves were documented; in one of them, two loculi were identified, along with five additional loculi. The finds from the caves and the loculi included pottery and glass vessels dating to the Roman period.

Since World War I the Palaeolithic industries of Palestine have been the subject of a considerable amount of investigation and discussion. The results of this work have been made available to scholars of the Ancient Near East primarily in isolated journal articles or publications of single sites. The present writer intends, therefore, to present an account of those Palaeolithic industries in which this data is collected, systematized and interpreted in such a way that scholars working in this area of Near Eastern studies may have at their disposal a foundation which is readily meaningful and broadly factual.
