In 1962, an excavation was conducted in Kefar Shemaryahu (map ref. 1833/6773). The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by F. Berger. A complex of burial caves that was dated to the Roman and Byzantine periods was exposed.

In January 1959, a salvage excavation was conducted at Deir ‘Asfin (map ref. 1975/6843). The excavation was directed by J. Naveh with the assistance of Sh. Amit (surveying). The remains of walls built of ashlar stones and two floors that were dated to the Early Islamic period were exposed. Based on the information in the excavation file, coins, glass and pottery dating to the Byzantine period were found.

Feudalism was the natural response to the greatest political need of the Dark Ages: security. Since there was no central government capable of providing this security, men fell back on their own resources, making local arrangements. Already, in the last chaotic centuries of imperial rule, Roman magnates had supported, and had been supported by, groups of clients. Among the Germanic tribes beyond the imperial frontiers, a roughly similar system of armed personal retainers had existed. From November 1955 to January 1956, an excavation was conducted in Tiberias, in the area of the tomb attributed to Maimonides (map ref. unknown), under the direction of B. Ravni. The excavation was carried out following the discovery of the remains of an ancient cemetery during development works. Three groups of tombs were exposed, as well as a number of individual tombs.

In 1954, a trial excavation was conducted in Tel Kinrot (map ref. 2504/7523), north and south of the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish. The excavation was directed by B. Ravni. North of the church, only an aqueduct was found. South of the church, an aqueduct and a canal were discovered, as well as walls that were associated with two stages of the church and walls of later periods. The remains were date to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods.

In 1954, a trial excavation was conducted at the Qiryat Ha-Yovel neighborhood in Jerusalem (map ref. 2168/6301), following the discovery of pottery and a lamp during the digging of pits in a private yard. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by L.Y. Rahmani. Two perpendicular walls were exposed, that were built of hard lime stones and nari (calcrete). Pottery was found at the foot of one of the walls, most of which was dated to the Byzantine period and a few to the Roman period.

In March 1953 a trial excavation was conducted at Tel Kinrot, about 10 km north of Tiberius (map ref. 2504/7523), following the digging of trenches for a water pipeline. The excavation was directed by B. Ravni, with the assistance of Y. Huri (plans). The remains of a bathhouse were discovered c. 200 m north of the Umayyad palace in Horbat al-Minya.

In 1953, an excavation was conducted near Tel Iztabba in Bet She'an (map ref. unknown), under the direction of N. Zori. Based on the plans and photographs in the excavation file, a mosaic floor decorated with geometric patterns was found c. 250 m west of the Kiri Maria monastery, adjacent to the route of the Roman–Byzantine wall of Bet She'an. Near the floor was a mausoleum and a coffin inside which were bones and skulls.

In 1952, an excavation was conducted in Tiberias, west of the house of the Custodian of Absentee Property (map ref. unknown), following the discovery of tombs during repair work in the building. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by B. Ravni. The excavation was carried out in a pit (3.5 × 6.0 m, depth 1.1 m) opened by the Public Works Department. Six tombs or parts of tombs were found, of which only three were excavated thoroughly. Some of the tombs were hewn in the rock and some built.

In 1952, a trial excavation was conducted in Tiberias (map ref. 2500/7440), following the discovery of tombs during the digging a channel for pipelines by workers of Tiberias municipal water department (beginning in the middle of the Aliyah Street in the west). The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by B. Ravni. Eight tombs, of which four were fully examined, were exposed in the channel (0.5 × 107 m, max. depth 0.5 m). In 1949, an excavation was conducted at the el-Haddar site in Tel Aviv, on the northern bank of the Yarkon River (map ref. 183/668). The excavation was conducted following the discovery of two tombs during sand removal by contractors. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by J. Ory. The remains of two simple trough graves, built within a frame of stones, were discovered on the site.
