Favissa: Past Archaeological Excavation Reports

In November 2004, a salvage excavation was conducted in Nahal Timna (map ref. 1912–4/6296–8), prior to the construction of a fence. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority, was directed by K. Ben-Or, with the assistance of H. Lavie (administration), V. Asserman and S. Pirsky (surveying), Z. Sagiv (photography) and A. Pikowski (pottery drawing).

Favissa: Past Archaeological Excavation Reports

In June 2003, a trial excavation was conducted in Qiryat Ha’Leom, at the Binyene Ha-Umma site in Jerusalem (map ref. 21930/63245), in an area designated for demolition prior to widening of the road. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority, was directed by K. Ben-Or, with the assistance of A. Hajian (surveying and drafting), R. Abu Khalf (administration) and A. Lidsky (pottery drawing).

Favissa: Past Archaeological Excavation Reports

In 2002 and 2003, excavations were conducted at a 5.5 dunams plot between Ha-Tayassim Road and Tslilei Hanina Street (Permit Nos. A-3764, A-4683; map ref. 182517-58/661650-81), under the direction of Giora Parnos. The site is located on a natural hill approximately 30 meters above sea level, on the third kurkar ridge of the central coastal plain. It is surrounded by fertile soil and lies near the main road connecting Jaffa and Jerusalem.

This work by Gerard David, painted around 1510 to 1515, represents a style built predominantly upon the foundation of his predecessors, while hinting in certain ways to the tastes and styles of the near future. Specific details of style show influence of artists before David such as Jan Van Eyck, Rogier Van der Weyden, Geertgen tot sin Jans, Hugo Van der Goes, and Hans Memlinc. His innovation is exemplified on the exterior panels, which introduce landscape as a genre and incorporate the spiritual theme of pilgrimage between the exterior and interior panels. Plurality Of Discourses In Euripides’ Ion: Euripides As Thinker And Dramatist, Katerina Zacharia

This paper discusses a general problem in Euripidean poetics starting from a feature of the Ion. In that play there is a curious juxtaposition of contrasting pairs that run through the very core of the play. Euripides has arranged the plot-construction in a series of doublets, which, I argue, express the very substance of the play itself, as is shown by the fact that, beyond these individual structural repetitions, the thematic of the play as a whole is characterized by doubling and repetition at every level. Prospective memory, memory for future events, is used for remembering duties and obligations that all people must complete. Past research has contributed to our understanding of the bases of prospective memory tasks (time versus event) and the kinds of situations requiring prospective memory (appointments, chores, deadlines, and medications). However, research has yet to examine how prospective remembering unfolds over time. For example, very little is known about how such remembering is affected by the time from when the task is encoded to the time that a task must be conducted (the retention interval), the length of the time in which …

In this article, the literary and archaeological evidence for burial practices that can be associated with the English expression ‘to be disposed of like rubbish’ are discussed. These disposal methods (átaphon rhíptesthai) include the exposure of corpses to carrion animals, to the elements, as well as the disposal of corpses into the sea, pits or natural fissures without burial rites. They also include cases in which graves were dug up in order to throw their contents out. Here, the Greek expressions for the English phrase ‘to be thrown away like rubbish’ are explored, as well as its relation …

The Pioneers of photography sought to document their lives with a new sense of reality and permanence. The results have persevered throughout photography's brief history as sparse, elegant, honest and strikingly beautiful images. My research uses late nineteenth century and early twentieth century equipment and techniques to document the timeless beauty, which connects us to those old photographs by creating portraits of people, which will deceive and nurture memory. Without our memories, we respond to the present with only survival instincts. Memory is our pool of reference for all experience. Only two basic elements, light and memory, are used as …

Favissa: Past Archaeological Excavation Reports

A salvage excavation was conducted at the Shuni Quarry in July–August 2001 under the direction of D. Sklar-Parnes, following the discovery of a shaft tomb during quarrying operations. The northern half of the shaft had been destroyed, while a handmade kettle was recovered from its southern half. Based on this find, together with reports of six additional shaft tombs discovered nearby, the excavator dated the use of the burial cave to the Early Bronze Age IV .

Cross Racial Preferences In Viewing Sexually Explicit Material: A Comparison Between African-American And Caucasian Males, Boyd Randal Horton

The present study investigated that extent to which the race of actors in an erotic video affected sexual arousal in African-American and Caucasian heterosexual males. It was hypothesized that the two racial groups would be significantly more sexually aroused while watching their respective homoethnic erotic video. The hypothesis was grounded in the modeling effects of Bandura's Social Leaning Theory (1977), the Matching Hypothesis (1982) and worldview differences between African-Americans and Caucasians (Baldwin and Bell, 1985). Thirty-four African-American and Caucasian males were shown homoethnic and non-homoethnic erotic videos while penile circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressures, and self-report ratings of sexual …
