During the late 1950s and the early 1960s, the popularity of existentialism in Hong Kong played a significant role in the local modernism movement, which was represented in both criticism and literary works. The introduction and dissemination of existentialism in Hong Kong was much affected by the local environment of newspapers and the magazines. This paper is a phenomenological interpretation of Chinese myth of creation centered around the mythical figure Pangu. It takes Pangu myth as an imaginary representation of of the primitive relation between body experience and the world. Mankind constructs a meaningful and inhabitable world from an alien space through his body experience. On the one hand, the world is constructed by body experience; on the other hand, the world is transcendental and preexistent as a basis to accommodate man's life. Since around the turn of 19th century, China has seen a large corpus of translated literature, and its great influence on Chinese literature has led to the intensive discussion of its classification, its relationship to local literature and its entrance into Chinese literature from the perspective of comparative studies, translation and cultural studies, and Chinese literary history studies. The paper starts from literary "categorical concepts," "mediation", and "indeterminacy" to clarify some literary conceptual premises to prepare for the literary historical narration of translated literature.

This paper examines the three regimes of art proposed by Jacques Ranciere: the ethical regime of images, the representative/poetic regime of art, and the aesthetic regime of art which implies a politics of equality and democracy. For Ranciere, "dissensus" is the articulating point between art and politics. Comparativism, this essay argues, should respond to the phenomenon of globalization by producing a critique of the concepts of literary value and universality. Paul Ricoeur not only sees the signs of language as linguistic grammatical system but also reduces them into the discourse communication of "speech act" and into the signification of human existence. They function both as a mediator and as a truth-deliverer. Visual art criticism is the center of art criticism, whose discourse often develops around visual themes, as is manifested in the two respects, namely, the relationship between seeing and interpretation regarding the transformation from "seeing" to "speaking out", and that between seeing and being seen revealing the contribution of visual activities to shaping the subject' self-consciousness and showing intersubjectivity. The most remarkable assertion Nietzsche made in his Birth of Tragedy concerns "the death of tragedy." The reason for the death of the Greek tragedy is, for Nietzsche, the change of chorus, spectator and prologue in Euripides' tragedies, which are contrary to the authentic Greek tragedies that represented the Dionysian spirit. Nietzsche attributed this situation to Socratism, claiming that Socratism not only resulted in a Euripidean "Greek cheerfulness" but also related closely to the western modern enlightenment. F. R. Leavis was the most influential and controversial critic and one of the forerunners of cultural criticism in the 20th century Britain. His cultural criticism is the point of departure for his literary criticism, which in turn aims for cultural and social health. This essay argues that, given the global dominance of neo-liberal capitalism, the concept of the subaltern now needs to be replaced by that of the precariat, a term first used by Pierre Bourdieu. It further argues that the category of the subaltern emerged in key post-disciplines of cultural studies, postcolonialism and subaltern studies, all of which themselves belong to the aftermath of the West's 1968 revolutions.
