Sculptural Furniture, Gary Galbraith
Sculptural Furniture, Gary Galbraith
All Master's Theses
The artist should employ his sense of playful experimentation that requires the re-investigation of old manners and styles. I have attempted to apply the imagination of my senses to the furniture object in order to satisfy other human needs aside from comfort. These artistic requirements remove the piece of furniture from the realm of neutrality and tastefulness and expect the viewer - user to experience visual communication.

This thesis statement is of a two part nature. The first part shows photographs of my creative products in the process of making them and in their completed state. The second part deals with the process involved in my mental activity as these objects were created.
I have presented the photographs of my work first because I feel that viewing the work before reading the text is of primary importance. Visual comprehension of my work is my major purpose.
The photographs in the visual appendix are objects that exist within my world. They are abstractions. They are but a few …

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
My recent interest in the use of cubic forms and rectangular solids led to the use of shapes that have a dynamic emphasis through the horizontal and vertical stresses of movement which interact in terms of structural and spatial dynamics. I have organized these shapes around an imaginary vertical axis which tends to produce a stasis or symmetrical equilibrium. Through the medium of photomontage I have created a series of sculptural juxtapositions or interactions between my work and several local environments. An important outgrowth of my creative work has been the mobility in scale that a piece appears to have …
