Using Artificial Intelligence For Enhancing Human Creativity, Mayssa Ahmad Ali Elfa, Mina Eshaq Tawfilis Dawood Jun 2023

Using Artificial Intelligence For Enhancing Human Creativity, Mayssa Ahmad Ali Elfa, Mina Eshaq Tawfilis Dawood

Journal of Art, Design and Music

Often the motive behind the use of any new technology is to increase the quality of innovative artwork. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the process of creating intelligent machines that can imitate or exceed human abilities in specific tasks. AI has become an important part of our daily lives, influencing many areas of our lives. As this technology evolves and becomes more sophisticated, it will eventually revolutionize the way we use computers. Researchers are looking for ways to expand the scope of artificial intelligence by providing people with more powerful tools to develop their creativity. At the same time, they are …

Developing A Prototype Of A Playfulness Toolkit, Hanneke Hovels May 2022

Developing A Prototype Of A Playfulness Toolkit, Hanneke Hovels

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

Playfulness is the ability to reframe situations, seeing new possibilities. A playful mind-set increases our mental flexibility, resilience, empathy, and our overall well-being. Unfortunately, growing up most of us lose part of our playfulness. How can we facilitate adults to live a (more) playful life? To ignite playfulness in adults’ lives, we first have to raise awareness for the benefits of playfulness, and then help people to develop a playful mind-set and integrate playfulness into their lives. In this project I combine my knowledge of creativity and playfulness with my experience in service and behavior design. I developed a prototype …

The Problem With Creativity, Con Kennedy Jun 2015

The Problem With Creativity, Con Kennedy

Conference papers

Creativity would seem to be the single most important competency of design practitioners. The literature would suggest that, in general, creativity is considered to be a positive thing generating positive outcomes of design practices and their clients. This paper investigates how creativity can be defined within the paradigm of design practice and practitioners and draws upon references in international literature to establish themes and concepts. Once identified, these themes are then investigated to identify potential problems or issues with creativity. Problems may include but are not limited to: practices undertaken by the individual designer; attitude responses from the individual designer; …

Creativity And Web Design: Designing And Producing A Successful Site On Creativity And Leadership, Travis N. Turner Aug 2014

Creativity And Web Design: Designing And Producing A Successful Site On Creativity And Leadership, Travis N. Turner

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project explores the connection between design, website development and creativity. As the Internet plays an increasing role in every day life, the ability to produce a high-quality website showcasing one’s personal and professional writing becomes essential to personal and career success. This project features a literature review as well as an analysis of successful website to determine what makes for a good site. The project then implements these findings with a complete re-design of www.creativeleader.com as well adding and improving the content already on the site.

Zenventures: Unwind Your Imagination With Guided Meditation, Darlene Kent Apr 2014

Zenventures: Unwind Your Imagination With Guided Meditation, Darlene Kent

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project was designed to create guided meditation to enhance creativity. Research was done to gather information on guided imagery, meditation and storytelling to gain a strong understanding of meditation in general, and to determine the themes of the various meditations. The guided meditations for this project were called, Zenventures, a combination of peace and adventure. The guided mediations take the person on a journey where they connect to their creative potential. A success plan was created to ensure the project stayed on track. There were several outcomes from the project: seven written meditations, seven Zenventures (recorded meditations with music), …

Polysemy In Design Review Conversations, Georgi V. Georgiev, Toshiharu Taura Jan 2014

Polysemy In Design Review Conversations, Georgi V. Georgiev, Toshiharu Taura

Design Thinking Research Symposium

This paper examines the role of polysemy, defined as the quality of having multiple meanings, in design review conversations. It examines the polysemy, particularly of nouns, involved in a dataset of design review conversations with reference to design ideas. The purpose is to determine whether polysemy is related to successful development of design ideas and more creative design outcomes. The results show that the polysemy of nouns involved in the conversations of the finally developed, successful, design ideas exceeds in the most cases the average polysemy involved in the conversations pertaining to the unsuccessful design ideas. Furthermore, the polysemy of …

Describing Creativity In Design Across Disciplines, Llew Mann, Yasemin Tekmen Araci Jan 2014

Describing Creativity In Design Across Disciplines, Llew Mann, Yasemin Tekmen Araci

Design Thinking Research Symposium

Creativity is an essential aspect of design thinking. Being able to describe creativity and creative processes is important for developing future designers. While much research has been undertaken describing creativity in design, there is very little investigating how creativity and creative thinking varies across disciplines. A coding scheme involving six separate codes was developed initially from the literature, refined and then used to describe how creativity and creative thinking was apparent in the DTRS 10 datasets of Junior Industrial Design, Graduate Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Choreography and Entrepreneurship. Based on this analysis, conclusions on how creativity and creative thinking varied …

Introduction To Creativity: A Lecture And Curriculum Framework For Students Who Identify Themselves As Creative, Miriam Kelley Dec 2013

Introduction To Creativity: A Lecture And Curriculum Framework For Students Who Identify Themselves As Creative, Miriam Kelley

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project focuses on the creative person, process, product and press- the 4Ps of creativity as articulated by Rhodes (1961). A curricular framework was developed with an emphasis on enhancing the abilities of those who already identify themselves as creative, specifically undergraduate Freshmen and Sophomores looking to study various fields of Design at the university level. The objective of the framework is to not only identify the innate processes that may have led these students to identify themselves as creative- thereby choosing their major- but also to allow them to recognize, improve and be deliberate in those processes, to enhance …

Merging Creative Design And Cad Learning Activities In A Product Design Programme, Pearl O'Rourke, Colm O'Kane, Leslie Smith, Michael Ring Sep 2013

Merging Creative Design And Cad Learning Activities In A Product Design Programme, Pearl O'Rourke, Colm O'Kane, Leslie Smith, Michael Ring

Conference Papers

Traditional learning and teaching methods for creativity differ from those used in a scientific context. Although the creative process can benefit from a certain level of prescription and structural constraint - with time allocated to research, problem definition, conceptualisation and idea development - flexibility and fluidity are necessary for creative innovation. In contrast, the more linear and rigid pedagogies associated with science and engineering education facilitate efficient learning of subjects such as those based on software packages, manufacturing and materials theory or mechanics. This paper describes the development of a project which aims to establish constructive links between the learning …
