Anito: Avatars of the Pearl is a collection of digitally illustrated character designs that personify the natural tourist attractions and endemic wildlife species in the Philippines to capture the recognition and improve the interest of Filipino teenagers on the natural resources of the country. The study aims to know how much recognition and interest do the Filipino teenagers have on the natural resources in the Philippines while the artwork applies the innovative concept of anthropomorphic personification to reimagine the natural resources of the Philippines as characters known as diwatas and engkantos.

This paper focuses on animal adoption in the Philippines and how art can influence people to support this action. Animal adoption is not given much attention in the country, and certain stigmas are surrounding such topics. Additionally, some people prefer to choose the breed of their pet, so they would instead buy from a breeder or a pet store rather than adopting one. This causes shelters to overpopulate with animals, ultimately resulting in the euthanization of some animals. This research aims to normalize animal adoption through art—in the form of a campaign. The focus of this thesis is on the transition from 2D character design to 3D model design, and how this transition affects the appeal, fluidity, and clarity of the 2D design. The source material for this project was an original screenplay entitled The Birds Work for Bea. Three characters from the material were selected for a process including ideation, research, 2D character and style exploration, 3D sculpting, and 3D printing and finishing. This project serves as a study in all aspects of the character concept development pipeline.

This exhibition and document explore spatial rhetoric during the pandemic, utilizing materiality and relational aesthetics to reflect on the different ways in which the public and private are made distinct from one another. In doing so, Lewis addresses new cultural navigations of shared spaces, both digital and corporeal, public and private. Operatic Mysticisms: Mountains, Deserts, Waterscapes examines the ways we encounter environments as readers/viewers of operas, literature, film, and sound recordings, and how each medium requires different detail-gathering techniques. Respective to the previously mentioned mediums, Sun & Sea (2017), Mount Analogue (1952), El Mar La Mar (2017), and Energy Field (2010) are analyzed by engaging with environmental media studies and invention. This paper explores the concept of toys, what they are and for whom they are made. The paper also provides a brief history of designer toys and pop culture, and how pop culture helped fuel the designer toy industry. The psychology of collecting is also referenced, and a direct correlation is made between the act of collecting toys and toy popularity.

The book I wrote is also mentioned and is a vital part of the purpose for the thesis. The book is an introductory guide to resin toymaking and is integral to the expansion of the designer toy community.

Memory and identity are rooted in the experience of being in material spaces and the process of remembering is often prompted by associative places. Quilted Archives is a series of four collages that combine the mediums of printmaking and oil painting in the pursuit of exploring nostalgia. In each work I use brightly colored intaglio aquatint prints, sepia intaglio etchings, patterned linocut prints, and oil paint to embed memories of childhood play and pretend in the flora of the landscapes where each memory takes place. Before I was taught what made us different, I thought my brother and I were the same. The only difference between a doe and a buck was the antlers. As I grew, I noticed differences—in the way people spoke to us, in what was expected of us, in the questions we were asked. In what our futures were supposed to look like. The difference between the doe and the buck was still the antlers, but those antlers made one a trophy and the other venison.

The aim of this project was to explore the effectiveness of video games and game-based learning as a means of mental health advocacy within People of Color (POC) and their communities. Research has shown that within black and brown communities, a heightened stigma is attached to the discussion of mental health, often preventing those who are affected from seeking treatment. This unwillingness to accept and care for mental illness within communities of color is highly detrimental, especially in the context of conditions such as Alzheimer’s or dementia, where African-Americans and Hispanics are at a significantly higher risk of developing these …

Conceptions of Flight is a thematic invitational group exhibition. The artwork exhibited here reveals a diverse and individual engagement with the theme. Some of the featured artists interpret flight as a rising up; a moving forward; a breaking free from struggle. Others have captured the thrill and wonder of travel; of the movement of clouds; of building new wings, mythopoetically. Whatever the interpretation, Conceptions of Flight provides an arresting look at the ways this age-old preoccupation continues to move the imagination and stretch the limits of our reach.

The King’s Fashion Reimagined

This was a venture to reimagine the fashion of Elvis Presley, the king of rock and roll in the 1970s. Elvis was known for the bold jumpsuits he often wore while performing. His fashion style was reimagined through the lens of upper-class 18th century styles. The 18th century gave us permission to be luxurious. The18th century elements such as the ditto suit and cravat were combined with 1970s jumpsuits and bell bottoms to create a whimsical reimagined collection of stage costumes.
