The Phygital Design Process: Using Emerging Technologies To Create A Phygital Fashion Brand Rooted In Nostalgia, Madeline M. Mcdaniel
The Phygital Design Process: Using Emerging Technologies To Create A Phygital Fashion Brand Rooted In Nostalgia, Madeline M. Mcdaniel
Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects
This Master's Project is a comprehensive exploration of the intersection of digital fashion design, nostalgia, and sustainable practices. Its primary objective is to create 'project CYBERBAE,' a phygital fashion collection that draws inspiration from early 2000s video game characters, trends, and aesthetics. The project utilizes advanced digital tools like Clo3D to demonstrate a comprehensive digital fashion design process that emphasizes inclusivity and sustainability. It also pioneers the development of a 3D virtual world, providing users with an immersive environment to interact with and experience digital fashion. This virtual space serves as a platform for a community of fashion, technology, and …
Bridging The Education Gap: Series Of Infographic Guides To Sustainable Living For Low-Income Communities, Brianna Mateo
Bridging The Education Gap: Series Of Infographic Guides To Sustainable Living For Low-Income Communities, Brianna Mateo
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Low-income communities in Australia face numerous negative impacts, such as health issues, social exclusion, educational disparities, and discrimination, which limit their opportunities to improve their quality of life (The Public Defenders,2022). As a result, students from these communities often have fewer resources and less funding, contributing to poor educational outcomes and underrepresentation in STEM fields, which includes environmental education (Australian Department of Education, 2022).
To address these challenges, I created an 8-page infographic series titled “Sustainable Living: On a Budget.” The series includes a cover page, an overview page, and four infographics covering : climate change, waste, preserving biodiversity, and …
Notions Of Designing Inclusively From Practitioner Perspectives, Maxim Lamirande, Katerina Alexiou, Rachael Luck
Notions Of Designing Inclusively From Practitioner Perspectives, Maxim Lamirande, Katerina Alexiou, Rachael Luck
DRS Biennial Conference Series
Even though inclusion is a well-researched subject in design, the numerous ways to describe and understand it are unsettled. The theoretical landscape often leads into paradoxes about how to best practice inclusion in design development processes. Instead, this study probes present-day understandings of designing inclusively from the perspective of practitioners who adopt an inclusive approach in their practice. A review of existing literature helped formulate preliminary notions that guide discussions with practitioners recruited across different domains. Iterative analysis of the data from these interviews reveals some differences between the original theoretical constructs and how they are perceived and used in …
Where Do We Go From Here? Rethinking The Design Studio After The Covid-19 Pandemic, Saskia Van Kampen, Anne Galperin, Karin Jager, Lesley-Ann Noel, Johnathon Strube
Where Do We Go From Here? Rethinking The Design Studio After The Covid-19 Pandemic, Saskia Van Kampen, Anne Galperin, Karin Jager, Lesley-Ann Noel, Johnathon Strube
DRS Biennial Conference Series
In this paper, five design educators apply an investigative framework to discuss the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the Design Studio and the future of design education at North American universities. The educators are dispersed geographically across Canada and the United States and teach in public higher education. They have a working and reflection group that has met weekly or bi-weekly for 18 months to discuss and write about their practice as design educators. This paper is a distillation of the group’s experiences, their reflections regarding the future of the design studio, and their intentions for practice …
Adaptation Of Graphic Design For Inclusivity Of Diverse Demographic Audiences, Stephanie Bedoya
Adaptation Of Graphic Design For Inclusivity Of Diverse Demographic Audiences, Stephanie Bedoya
Honors Theses
Being culturally aware of one’s target audience is essential in order to avoid insensitive design choices and communicate more effectively. Through secondary source research, I described design issues impacting populations that are frequently overlooked. I found examples that either lack cultural awareness or inclusivity for these populations. This project analyzes these existing design materials and provides a redesigned version following more inclusive standards.
The Drive For Disability, Aliyah Walker
The Drive For Disability, Aliyah Walker
Capstones
After recent inclusivity movements, the fashion industry had a reckoning that they need to do better when it comes to diversity. Size, age, and gender have started to have better representation in recent years; however, disability representation is still lagging. If the fashion industry wants to become truly inclusive, it needs to start representing disabled individuals positively and regularly both on the runway and in campaigns.

Workshop Proposal: Universal Design For Learning, Hsiao-Yun Chu
Learn X Design Conference Series
Universal Design for Learning is a framework for accessible and inclusive teaching for people of all ability levels. It can help to make teaching and learning more accessible to people with mild to moderate learning disabilities as well as some level of physical disability by providing information and assessment in multiple formats. > The goals of the workshop will be: > Identify basic principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) > Understand how UDL can be used as a strategy for inclusive teaching > Practice applying UDL principles to existing assignments/engagements Technical Requirements & Materials: • A computer and internet bandwidth that can handle …
Clothing Construction Curriculum: Exploring Gender Inclusivity, Shaelin M. Nilsen
Clothing Construction Curriculum: Exploring Gender Inclusivity, Shaelin M. Nilsen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Female students have traditionally dominated enrollment in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) courses (formerly Home Economics). However, gender diversity has recently increased in many FCS areas due to changes in gender stereotypes and career opportunities. This trend is evident at Utah State University, where gender diversity in clothing construction (i.e., sewing) courses has increased drastically since the creation of the Outdoor Product Design and Development degree program. This study evaluated students’ experiences in traditionally female-dominant clothing construction courses.
Gender-inclusive courses are crucial for a productive and safe learning environment for all students. Avoiding personal biases and cultivating a relevant curriculum …
Contemporary Art And Historical Archives: Collaborations And Convergences In A Digital Multicultural Age, Suzanne S. Lapierre
Contemporary Art And Historical Archives: Collaborations And Convergences In A Digital Multicultural Age, Suzanne S. Lapierre
School of Information Student Research Journal
Literature illuminating the relationship between contemporary art and historical archives around the turn of the twenty-first century and how these interactions inform the evolution of archives in a digital multicultural age is the topic of this review. The literature reveals the extent to which art has been a means for members of marginalized groups to address their representation in historical archives, and also a means for archives to connect with a broader audience. Collaborations between artists and historical archives add new dimension to the debate about the nature of the archive as a creation in and of itself, and in …
