The Evolution And Preservation Of Video Games: An Artistic And Cultural Journey, Dhru Fuletra
The Evolution And Preservation Of Video Games: An Artistic And Cultural Journey, Dhru Fuletra
ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies
From the first time I held a game controller, video games have been a fundamental part of my life. They started as simple, pixel-filled adventures on early consoles and have grown into the vast, immersive worlds we explore on today’s advanced systems. For me, they’ve always been more than just a way to pass the time; they’ve been gateways to alternate realities where creativity, interaction, and storytelling seamlessly come together. Over the years, video games have transformed from casual hobbies into intricate cultural phenomena and, importantly, into a recognized art form. In this essay, I contend that video games are …
Valorant's Interlinked To Theory Of Representation (Race And Culture) And Feminist Coflict Theory, Gerald Susanteo
Valorant's Interlinked To Theory Of Representation (Race And Culture) And Feminist Coflict Theory, Gerald Susanteo
ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies
A brief introduction to Valorant to new ears and eyes is that Valorant is a video game and what I will be calling a media that was released by Riot Games in 2020, Valorant is a tactical FPS (first person shooter) game that blends strategic gameplay with an immersive sci-fi narrative. The setting of the game takes place in a world destabilized by the mysterious "First Light" event which gives these agents called Radiants their powers and abilities. The game first introduces the organization called Kingdom Corporation as a central antagonist exploiting the Radiants who, like I explained earlier, are …

Indigenous Ecocinema: Decolonizing Media Environments, Salma Monani
Indigenous Ecocinema: Decolonizing Media Environments, Salma Monani
Gettysburg College Faculty Books
Introducing the concepts of d-ecocinema and d-ecocinema criticism, Monani expands the purview of ecocinema studies and not only brings attention to a thriving Indigenous cinema archive but also argues for a methodological approach that ushers Indigenous intellectual voices front and center in how we theorize this archive. Its case-study focus on Canada, particularly the work emanating from the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival in Toronto--a nationally and internationally recognized hub in Indigenous cinema networks--provides insights into pan-Indigenous and Nation-specific contexts of Indigenous ecocinema.
This absorbing text is the first book-length exploration foregrounding the environmental dimensions of cinema made by …
The Intersection Of Interactive Narrative And Flow State Immersion: An Exploration Of Trauma, Resilience, And Post-Traumatic Growth, Tiffani Barner
The Intersection Of Interactive Narrative And Flow State Immersion: An Exploration Of Trauma, Resilience, And Post-Traumatic Growth, Tiffani Barner
Theses
This work investigates the benefits of interactive narratives in conjunction with flow state immersion for individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. A specific focus is placed on narratives that contain dark or horror-based themes. In addition, the importance of selfauthorship, representation, and empowerment are explored. Accompanying the examination of flow state, concepts such as challenge, failure, and the motivation to succeed at challenging tasks are analyzed. This work also includes a survey pertaining to user preferences regarding media and genre preferences. The goal of this project is to design an interactive user experience that activates flow state while also providing an …

Virtual Production In Unreal Engine 5: Tools For The Game And Film Industry, Hannah Hogan
Virtual Production In Unreal Engine 5: Tools For The Game And Film Industry, Hannah Hogan
Master of Fine Arts in Digital Media Culminating Experience
Virtual Production (VP) blends both the game and film industries with the use of Unreal Engine. This thesis explores how Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) bridges the gap between these fields, providing powerful tools for both film projects and immersive experiences. The research examines UE5's capabilities, including real-time rendering, photorealistic environments, and immersive set design, and demonstrates how game and film production workflows intersect. This study focuses on three case studies highlighting how VP tools can be used in district ways: immersive gameplay, film production, and creating engaging video game trailers. Finally, this research explores the advantages of the diverse ways …

Designing And Building An Action Figure Of Alexander The Great To Better Engage Young Learners In History, Patrick Sandoval
All Theses
This paper discusses creating an action figure of Alexander the Great as a means of garnering a child’s interest in a specific setting of human history. Physical mediums have merit as supplemental tools for traditional learning methods for children, with action figures providing an outlet for role-playing and enhanced engagement. Topics include the significance of Alexander the Great, as well as the process of creating an action figure of him using production methods of digital character sculpting and 3D printing. Its design takes inspiration from the Street Fighter series, Classical and Hellenistic Greek sculpture, and professional wrestling action figures.

Breaking The Curse: Rebranding The Sacramento Kings, Colby Sundeen
Graphic Communication
The Sacramento Kings basketball team has a terrible reputation throughout the National Basketball Association (NBA) and has suffered a massive loss in their revenue and audience because of it. Even though they are the oldest team in the NBA and are based in the capital of California, which is the largest market in the world for basketball, they are consistently overshadowed by all of the other teams in California as well as most of the other teams in the NBA. This stems from their brand reputation which has slowly and consistently declined since the early 2000’s. Brand reputation is one …

Pixels Of Passion: The Revolutionary Impact Of Indie Games, Sharanya Udupa
ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies
In the dynamic world of video game development, a powerful revolution has been quietly transforming how interactive experiences are created. Independent game developers, or "indie" game creators, have emerged as innovative storytellers and design pioneers, challenging traditional gaming paradigms and offering players unique, personal experiences that transcend mainstream entertainment.
Unlike mainstream games developed by large corporations with multi-million dollar budgets, indie games are typically created by small teams or even individual developers driven by artistic vision rather than pure commercial interests. These creators prioritize innovative gameplay mechanics, compelling narratives, and unique aesthetic experiences over conventional market formulas. Platforms like Steam …
