Hand Of Glory: I Get Nervous, Alonzo O. Williams Apr 2016

Hand Of Glory: I Get Nervous, Alonzo O. Williams

Digressions: Literary & Art Journal

I get nervous but I'm not really scared. If I am to look timid then honestly, who cares? Judgement can take it's place. I want to think about the mistake. The failure of not being myself completely, but I gaze at the cross and accept my forever weakness. I cannot make up for this day. The day that I walked up to a friend whom I know to an extent but yet in her presence I could not help but be nervous. My words were slur, my conversation was awkward, my body was numb. For a moment I had the …

Applying Experience-Based Co-Design With Vulnerable Populations: Lessons From A Systematic Review Of Methods To Involve Patients, Families And Service Providers In Child And Youth Mental Health Service Improvement, Alison Mulvale, Ashleigh Miatello, Christina Hackett, Gillian Mulvale

Patient Experience Journal

The objective was to identify methods used to involve patients, family and service providers in child and youth mental health service improvement research. We analyzed the alignment of methods used with Experience-Based Co-Design (EBCD) methodology, and how power imbalances among participants were addressed. A systematic review of the English-language peer review literature since 2004 was carried out. The EMBASE, Scholar’s Portal, PubMed, Web of Science databases and the Ontario College of Art and Design University libraries were searched electronically for variations of ‘child’, ‘mental health’, ‘experience-based co-design’, ‘participatory research’ and ‘health care services’. Textual data was systematically extracted and analyzed. …

The Link Between Artemisia Gentileschi’S Biography And Her Artistic Oeuvre, Emma Komers Apr 2016

The Link Between Artemisia Gentileschi’S Biography And Her Artistic Oeuvre, Emma Komers

Young Historians Conference

Up until the era of Modern Art, the artistic community excluded women and dismissed their work as inferior. One exception to this trend is the 17th-century Italian artist, Artemisia Gentileschi, whose work demonstrated her ability to use scenes depicting familiar stories as a way to express her personal struggles as a woman. Drawing upon historical interpretations of her art, popular stories at the time, and the artwork itself, this paper demonstrates the use of art as a tool to communicate social injustice.

Interview With Lev Grossman, Cassandra Christopher Apr 2016

Interview With Lev Grossman, Cassandra Christopher

Manuscripts

I’m not an especially emotional being. But when I first read The Magicians, I was furious. I spent thirty minutes trying to explain my anger to my family and to my best friend. I felt that Lev Grossman had soiled Narnia, the most precious world I’d ever known, with a protagonist, Quentin, who was a self-absorbed ass. My advisor, who had recommended the series to me, suggested that perhaps it was an homage rather than a deconstruction, that Lev Grossman loved this world as much as I did and wanted to work with it in a wholly new way. At …
