Revolutions In Time, Space, And Art: Russian Constructivism, Floris Bannister
UNIversitas: Journal of Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity
El Lissitzky opened his essay Art and Pangeometry by writing that “in the period between 1918 and 1921, a lot of old rubbish was destroyed.”[1] This quote encapsulates the tumult of the early twentieth-century, when many long-established orders were overturned, not the least of which were both artistic and scientific in nature. Revolutions in the spheres of politics, mathematics, physics, and art combined in the vanguard movement of Russia known as Constructivism. This movement grew in the aftermath of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 and thrived in Russia until Stalin took power in 1924. Thereafter, Modernism in general lost …

Going Mobile: A Guide To Mobile Website And Application User Preferences, Kevin M. Weeks
Graphic Communication
Mobile devices are rapidly gaining popularity. There is an increasing demand for individuals who can develop quality mobile websites and applications. In the world of mobile, the most important consideration is the end user. Who is the application or mobile website trying to target and what do they want? This study was designed to determine what users value and whether current developers are accurately reflecting these values. Determining this was accomplished through surveys of mobile users, interviews with mobile web developers, and analysis of successful websites and apps through case studies. The survey included questions to determine what qualities mobile …
Pragmatism And Compromise In Conservation, Peter D. Verheyen
Pragmatism And Compromise In Conservation, Peter D. Verheyen
Librarian Publications
I write this from the perspective of an apprentice-trained bookbinder and conservator who has spent most of his career working in academic research libraries in the US, work that has included working primarily with special collections, but also heavily used circulating collections and digitization. During this time I have also worked with many other conservators, interns from conservation/preservation programs and students of museum studies and librarianship. While the mission ensuring the long-term health of and continued access to the Library’s collections has not changed, how we do that work and prioritize activities has. This has been a result of changes …

The Hilltop Review
This drawing—painted on the surface of one of the interior doors located in the first floor at East Hall—shows the preoccupation of people about the uncertain future of East Campus. In one way or another, it has kept awake my sensibility toward how educational institutions can affect community not only academically, but also personally, and how people consider education as a one of the foremost elements for progress. Location: East Hall, First Floor. Original painting by unknown artist.

My interest in the real has always been present and I try to mix my work with that. In my series disassembly, I have used old items that are no longer used by the masses and often found on the street curbs heading for disposal. All of the items in the photographs were in working order. The interesting part was the fact that they were all so well built, and most likely put together by hand. I envisioned all the enjoyment these pieces had given many people for many years, all to be replaced by new technology that will be …

‘But my mind was too confused … so with a kind of madness growing upon me, I flung myself into futurity … What strange developments of humanity, what wonderful advances upon our rudimentary civilization, I thought, might not appear when I came to look into the dim elusive world that raced and fluctuated before my eyes. I saw great and splendid architecture rising about me, more massive than any buildings of our own time, and yet, it seemed, built of glimmer and mist … the earth seemed very fair. And so my mind came round to the business of stopping.’ …
