Art and Design Creative Works
This year the Cobb County School District is especially proud to sponsor the 2009-2010 All-State Art Symposium. This event brings together high school students and teachers not just in Cobb County but throughout the state of Georgia for one full day of workshops, a juried exhibition of student work, and an awards ceremony. We are very grateful to Kennesaw State and their tireless preparators for their commitment to partner with us to generate this year’s All-State Art Symposium. I wish to thank the regional coordinators who contributed untold hours to help with this event. Finally, as I hope most …

Versions Of Pygmalion In The Illuminated Roman De La Rose (Oxford, Bodleian Library, Ms. Douce 195): The Artist And The Work Of Art, Marian Bleeke
Department of Art and Design Faculty Publications
The article focuses on the manuscript Douce 195, which is a late fifteenth-century copy of the poem "Roman de la Rose," that contains nine images for the poem's Pygmalion myth digression. According to the article, the manuscript was produced by the illuminator and court artist Robert Testard for Duke Charles d'Orleans. The differences between the story of Pygmalion as it is told in the text of the "Roman de la Rose" and in Testard's miniatures in the manuscript are explored. It is argued that the Pygmalion sequence represents Testard's reflections on the changing status of the …

Research Expression through Art : Visual Studies Faculty
The works in this exhibition are part of two larger series of work, both of which are ongoing: the Reciprocal Interference project (互涉) and Time with the Sky (與天共度的時光).
The Reciprocal Interference project consists of two-person collaborative works by Carol Archer and artist-friends Sue Rawlinson, Sue Taylor, Johanna Trainor (Australia), Mary Grehan (Ireland) and Even Mak (Hong Kong). The Time with the Sky series of charcoal and watercolour drawings was begun during Archer’s residency at Bundanon, Australia in July 2009. Australian artist Arthur Boyd and his family gave their home, a splendid property on the banks of the Shoalhaven River, …

Student Theses and Dissertations
These works explore our relationships with the natural world. Paint, surface and color are used to communicate this idea. People have a fundamental need to connect with the living things around them. I have moved away from literal images of nature to abstract forms. This non-verbal communication allows the viewer to make his or her own connections. The viewer may be drawn into a moment of reflection as the logical mind is disengaged. The essence of thought is there ready to be discovered. Like the Abstract Expressionists, many techniques are used to apply organic lines and amorphous shapes to canvas. …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
I create images in a painterly manner illustrating a visual dialog, which suggests simultaneous moments, yet are actually a separated collision of moments and time. I have stretched these ideas from a slowed manipulation of time, to a calculated capture of segmented moments. My work undermines the importance of the decisive moment theory. This theory was the catalyst for my new series, VISUAL STAMP. "The decisive moment, it is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as the precise organization of forms which gives that event its proper expression." - …
Place, Space, And Form Captured Through Photographic Meditation, Sarah Stead
Place, Space, And Form Captured Through Photographic Meditation, Sarah Stead
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Inspired by Buddhist philosophy, the photographic series Architectural Zen attempts to beautify banal and pragmatic architecture through limiting and preexisting artificial light conditions. The selective illumination of artificial light eliminates the non-essential details and enhances the pure forms and saturated color presented by the camera lens. This encourages the photographer and the viewer to enter a state of meditation. The resulting process is similar to a Zen approach to image making. The ancient Zen artist's compositions are strengthened by a meditation on form and subsequent elimination of the non-essential elements of the subject. Through embracing this Zen mentality and mindfulness, aspects …

A Location Aware P2p Voice Communication Protocol For Networked Virtual Environments, Gabor Papp
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Multiparty voice communication, where multiple people can communicate in a group, is an important component of networked virtual environments (NVEs), especially in many types of online games. While most research has been conducted on one-to-one communication, we focus on group communication. In this dissertation, we present the first measurement study on the characteristics of multiparty voice communications and develop a model of the talking and silence periods observed during multiparty communication. Over a total of 5 months, we measured over 11,000 sessions on an active multi-party voice communication server to quantify the characteristics of communication generated by game players, including …
