Recreational Technology And Its Impact On The Learning Development Of Children Ages 4-8: A Meta-Analysis For The 21st Century Cl, Joey Templeton

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This research focuses on technology (specifically video games and interactive software games) and their effects on the cognitive development of children ages 4-8. The research will be conducted as a meta-analysis combining research and theory in order to determine if the educational approach to this age group needs to change/adapt to learners who have been affected by this technology. I will focus upon both the physical and mental aspects of their development and present a comprehensive review of current educational theory and practice. By examining current curriculum goals and cross-referencing them to research conducted in fields other than education (i.e. …

Times New Roman, Jason Mckrindey Coates

Theses and Dissertations

It is difficult to say that anything will be proven in this thesis of mine. I think of it more as an account of some things that happened in my artwork over the course of graduate school and my earlier development as an artist. Some influences are listed, but certainly not all of them. Likewise, the work that is mentioned in this paper represents a sampling rather than an in-depth survey. I don't have any tables or charts.

Art, Ecology And Art Education: Locating Art Education In A Critical Place-Based Pedagogy, Mark Graham

Contemporary Art, Science, Ecology, And A Critical Pedagogy Of Place, Mark Graham

Faculty Publications

In contemporary life and education, the local is marginalized in favor of large-scale economies of consumption that are indifferent to ecological concerns. The consequences of neglecting local human and natural communities include a degraded habitat, loss of wilderness, alienation, rootlessness, and lack of connection to communities. Place-based education responds to this indifference to local ecological concerns by grounding student learning in the experiences of their own lives, communities, and regions. Critical place-based pedagogy broadens the scope of place-based learning by incorporating critical theory into the curriculum of the local. This article describes a critical pedagogy of place as a prelude …

With a background in both genetics and sculpture, he’s interested in how complex systems like biology, computers, or culture grow and connect. Grey also talks about inventing ZOOB, a building toy that helps kids understand how living systems work. Simple Complexity, Eric T. Anderson Jan 2007

Simple Complexity, Eric T. Anderson

School of Art, Art History, and Design: Theses and Student Creative Work

I enjoy a combination of different things. Growing up full of humor and self-awareness, I always knew I would do something artistic. Art gave me creative freedom. Most of my time was used dreaming and imagining, about places, people, and things. Therefore, my roots in the northern Midwest culture and countryside are great inspiration for me. It is in this area of the country where the idea of art and craft are blurred, a place where nostalgic wildlife art shares the same wall with a Monet print and family photos. Unusual artistic conversation happens within that kind of environment, which …

Density, Jesse Ross Jan 2007

Density, Jesse Ross

School of Art, Art History, and Design: Theses and Student Creative Work

This work is porcelain tableware and architectural ornament. I choose the context of function because the things we use contain purpose both actual and metaphorical. They are concrete, connected to our lives by necessity, regardless of meaning or aesthetics. Form and surface are more than the residue of concept, they must be specifically engineered for right application. This work, be it shelter, ligbt, containment, etc. is the foundation for the intimacy we feel toward our belongings. That said, utility is only one facet of the objects I make. A Styrofoam cup works well enough, but its expressive potential is limited. …
