This essay outlines topics for further design research by posing questions about the way emerging technologies, particularly social media and extended reality, might provide new affordances for deeper spiritual consciousness. Drawing on Hegel’s concept of Spirit, as well as the Jewish mystical tradition, this essay explores how discourse, manifested through community and culture, can be imagined as the mind of God. From this foundation, we explore speculative design scenarios for the development of sacred spaces in augmented and extended reality, in particular synagogues, as we consider the prototype of the synagogue, which was once situated on the temple mount in …

The Court ruled that the constitution protected the right to have an abortion, securing choice and bodily autonomy for American women. Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health, No. 19-1392, 597 U.S. nullified the precedent of Roe v. Wade on June 24th, 2022. This decision has left reproductive rights to be decided on a state by state basis, compromising the health and access on healthcare for half of the country after 49.5 years …

v.1 is a publishing platform for the ongoing work, ideas, discussions, debates, and aspirations of students at the Rhode Island School of Design. The Winter 2022 issue is a special edition "art writing capsule," with three zines that each feature a student writing about a work of art, and a fourth zine with an editor's note and postscript. Writing 1 is Angelina Rogers on Salman Toor's "Two Boys with a Dog," Writing 2 is Maxwell Fertik on Shahzia Sikander's "Epistrophe," and Writing 3 is Sabo Kpade on Lynette Yiadom-Boakye's "Any Number of Preoccupations."

The score and instrument were developed by Holland Hopson, a sound and media artist, composer and improviser.
