Seeking Solace: Regret, Grief, Anxiety, Rebecca Schroeder Mar 2016

Seeking Solace: Regret, Grief, Anxiety, Rebecca Schroeder

Honors Projects

Seeking Solace: Regret, Grief, Anxiety is a triptych video and artifact piece inspired by the abstract analysis of my dreams. It recognizes worries held within my subconscious and brings them to life through graphic design, photography, and video. The process of creating provides a new perspective of looking at both art and occupational therapy as methods of solving emotional distress.

I have recorded over 80 of my dreams in the past year. In these dreams, regret, grief, and anxiety are common themes. These themes are represented in three triptychs that cycle through past, present, and future problems. The cycling of …

Selected Works Temporary Series

Book cover and interior template I designed for Pull by Kevin Waltman, published by Cinco Puntos Press.Derrick has worked hard the last two years getting ready for his junior basketball season. He’s earned his coach’s trust and his role as the starting point guard for Marion East. Marion East has never won the Indiana state championship, but this year the team is Derrick’s. And Derrick is really good. Major colleges work feverishly to recruit him because now that he’s a junior, they can do it legally. Opponents worry when D-Bow steps onto the court. Derrick is ready to run teams …

Selected Works Temporary Series

Book cover and interior template I designed for Quicks by Kevin Waltman, published by Cinco Puntos Press.Senior Year. Glory time! D-Bow’s game has it all and colleges are taking notice. But nothing’s easy. He’s still rehabbing a knee injury and his job as Marion East point guard is under threat from a new white guy. Plus he’s got family drama. And girl trouble. Can he put it all together for his senior season? Or will he crash and burn like so many Marion East players before him? Quicks is the fourth and final book in Waltman's D-Bow High School Hoops …

Book cover and interior template I designed for Quicks by Kevin Waltman, published by Cinco Puntos Press. It's D-Bow's senior year, his A-Game is ready, big-time colleges are taking notice, and he's dreaming big. Quicks is the fourth and final book in Waltman's D-Bow High School Hoops series.s.

Comfort Toys: Coping Tools For Children With An Epileptic Parent, Benjamin Evjen Jan 2016

Comfort Toys: Coping Tools For Children With An Epileptic Parent, Benjamin Evjen

Theses and Dissertations

When a caregiver suffers from epilepsy, a child can often feel frightened, vulnerable, and alone whenever a seizure occurs. In my thesis project I intend to help children negotiate this struggle with the use of therapeutic toys. Through play, children can navigate feelings that are often overlooked by adults. The visual appeal, simplicity, and materials used in their creation help facilitate comfort through sensory cues. By applying coping mechanisms to deal with stress caused by the passage of time, provide tactile comfort, and equip the child with tools to take action, their emotional needs are met. These toys address an …

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Graphic design is a problem-solving field. A client or company tasks a designer with a problem, and to solve that problem the designer uses 2D fundamentals and technology. As a designer, one must carefully listen to the client to understand their needs before making design decisions. While graphic designers are responsible for creating stunning visuals for both print and digital media, one of the most important aspects of graphic design is branding. Broadly speaking, branding is the process involved in creating a unique name and image for a product or service in a consumers mind. Through branding, the designer aims …

Southern Steam Prints: Large Scale, Relief Printmaking, Allison Mueller

Honors College Theses

Southern Steam Prints, a steamroller printmaking festival for Georgia Southern University I directed and organized. The project taught valuable skill mastery in relief print techniques, commercialism, and leadership for the kinds of event that artists plan, jury, and participate in, in the professional world. The Southern Steam Prints festival took place on April 23, 2016. Artworks created at the event were exhibited at the Center of Art and Theater …
