Le Nouveau Cirque, Diana C. Lynch
All Student Theses and Dissertations
Exploring traditional circus and contemporary circus has lead me to my current body of print work titled Le Nouveau Cirque simply meaning The New Circus. In my studio work I use printmaking to create my art. My focus on printmaking began with this body of artwork because of my interest making multiples of images and using old and new style processes of printmaking going hand in hand with my interest in old and new types of circuses. The connotation of creating multiples relates to old circus lithographs when artists would make many fliers and banners to advertise a show. …

The Feathered Hand: Installation, Drawings, Prints By Alison Derby Hildreth, University Of New England Art Gallery
Exhibition Catalogues
The Feathered Hand: Installation, Drawings, Prints is the catalogue from the University of New England Art Gallery’s January 5 –April 3, 2011 exhibition of work by Alison Hildreth.
Hildreth described the work as: “… an installation and a group of drawings and prints that I have been working on over the past 2 years. The drawings and prints I think of as walks through a changing landscape of associative ideas; each carries something from the previous image but moves on to a new interpretation. They continue end to end: divided cities, natural and manmade terrains, maps of investigations inspired as …

Making Art History Come Alive In The Online Classroom, Anahit Ter-Stepanian
Art & Design Faculty Publications
Student engagement, development of critical thinking, and fostering original ideas are among the many challenges of online course design. This concern is particularly pertinent for courses in humanities, where the lack of face to face interaction and group discussions needs to be compensated with other methods resulting in similarly successful learning outcomes. Since most of the communication and exchange of ideas in the online classroom takes place in discussion threads, designing intellectually stimulating and motivating discussion topics is instrumental for fostering students’ enthusiasm for the subject. The paper discusses learner engagement strategies the author has developed, experimented with and found …

Making A Case For Arts Administrators: Maintaining Interdisciplinary Arts Programs In Public Schools, Samantha Jardon-Peppard
Making A Case For Arts Administrators: Maintaining Interdisciplinary Arts Programs In Public Schools, Samantha Jardon-Peppard
Graduate Theses
For decades interdisciplinary arts programs have been developed and implemented in public schools throughout our nation. Much research has been dedicated to proving the benefits of interdisciplinary arts education, results of which can be found in reports such as Champions of Change and Project Zero. However, little research has been dedicated to how an interdisciplinary arts program is maintained in a school once it has been initiated and who is responsible for its development and sustainability. Chapter one of this thesis reviews some history of arts education, why the arts have become a vital part of education, and how arts …

Student Theses and Dissertations
These works explore our relationships with the natural world. Paint, surface and color are used to communicate this idea. People have a fundamental need to connect with the living things around them. I have moved away from literal images of nature to abstract forms. This non-verbal communication allows the viewer to make his or her own connections. The viewer may be drawn into a moment of reflection as the logical mind is disengaged. The essence of thought is there ready to be discovered. Like the Abstract Expressionists, many techniques are used to apply organic lines and amorphous shapes to canvas. …
