The Port of Calhoun, LLC. is planning to construct a commercial facility for transporting and storing sand. The facility includes the construction of a number of onshore deadmen for barge mooring, a bulkhead for loading and unloading barges, buildings for sand storage, and an area for the disposal of dredge material. Because the project will involve the placement of fill within the ordinary high water mark of the Victoria Barge Canal, the project will require a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District (Corps). The Mission County Park Tree Planting Project will be funded and managed by Bexar County, an entity of the State of Texas. As such, the project falls under the jurisdiction of Chapter 35 of the City of San Antonio Unified Development Code, as well as the Antiquities Code of Texas (Texas Natural Resource Code, Title 9, Chapter 191), by virtue of it representing a public undertaking.

The proposed project consists of the construction of approximately one mile (mi; 1.6 kilometers [km]) of a 138 kV tap from the existing Arco to Crane transmission line to the new Oryx Crane substation within a 100-foot (ft) (30.48-meter [m]) wide corridor, in Crane County, Texas (Figure 1-1). Archaeological excavations at the Gault Archaeological Site (41BL323) have revealed an almost complete stratigraphic record of the prehistoric occupation of Central Texas (Collins 2002, 2004). Furthermore, ages obtained from Area 15 of the site confirms good stratigraphic agreement between the diagnostic artifacts, cultural horizons, and stratigraphic units (Rodrigues, et al. 2016; Williams, et al. 2018). This includes some of the earliest evidence for a projectile point technology in North America (Williams, et al. 2018). Like many areas in Central Texas, the combination of water, raw materials, and its position along the Balcones Escarpment provided abundant resources essential to survival.

Boca Chica Beach spans the south Texas coast in Cameron County for a distance of roughly 12 kilometers between Brazos Santiago Pass and the mouth of the Rio Grande River at the Texas and Mexican border. More than 165 historic ships have been reported lost along the south Texas coast in this general area and at least four, or portions thereof, have been discovered so far. Hinds Cave (41VV456) and other rockshelters excavated in the Lower Pecos Canyonlands have yielded thousands of coprolites spanning the Holocene. To date, several hundred specimens have been analyzed, providing a detailed record of meals consumed by hunter-gatherers who called this landscape home. This article compares the paleodietary records derived from these specimens with the foodways documented in the ethnohistoric records available for the Lower Pecos Canyonlands and adjacent landscapes. This comparison confirms the deep temporal roots of the foodways recorded in the earliest written records of the Texas/Mexico borderlands. This research examines the interrelation between civilian and military burials on the Texas frontier in the 1850s with further discussion about the drivers for changing military burial practices. A soldier’s life on the Texas frontier is briefly outlined along with some of the difficulties facing service members living in border forts. Special focus is placed on examining the socio-economic differences between officers and enlisted personnel, as well as the recording of deaths on the frontier. On June 12, 2018, archeologists from aci consulting conducted a cultural resources survey for the proposed Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) overhead line (OHL) rebuild in Travis County, Texas. The Area of Potential Effect for this project consists of the 50-foot Right-of-Way (ROW) for the proposed rebuild of the 5.31-mile overhead electric power supply alignment, for a total of 32.17 acres (13.02 hectares).

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) is proposing to improve Buena Vista Road, a two-lane, paved roadway accessing the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Cameron County, Texas. While the project is located within the Laguna Atascosa NWR, the roadway falls under the jurisdiction of Cameron County. The proposed project includes pavement reconstruction and widening by pulverizing and overlaying Buena Vista Road along a 2.7-mile (4.35 kilometer [km]) segment from the intersection of General Brant Road to the north entrance of the Laguna Atascosa NWR (Figure 1-1). On September 20, 2018, aci consulting conducted a cultural resources survey for the Braun Elevated Storage Tank (EST) Project in Williamson County, Texas. The Area of Potential Effect APE(APE) consists of a square, 0.82-acre (0.33-hectare) area and is located 656 feet (200 meters) north on an unnamed road off of W. State Highway (SH) 29, 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) west of Ronald Reagan Blvd. The entire 0.82-acre area was surveyed in preparation for the installation of the Braun EST (Figures 1 and 2).

The City of College Station contracted HDR, Inc. (HDR) to conduct a cultural resources survey for proposed improvements to the pedestrian walkways along University Drive in the City of College Station, Brazos County, Texas. The primary purpose of this project is to improve and enhance pedestrian facilities along University Drive from College Main to 700 feet (ft) east of College Avenue (2,871 linear ft, 0.544 mile). The improvements include new traffic signals, sidewalks, turn lanes, drainage and utility adjustments, and hardscaping. HRA Gray & Pape, LLC, of Houston, Texas, performed an intensive pedestrian survey on approximately 777 hectares (2044.7 acres) of property on the former Harlem State Prison Farm, north and south of Oyster Creek in Fort Bend County, Texas. The United States Army Corps of Engineers was the Lead Federal Agency. Investigation included excavation of 919 shovel tests and 80 test trenches, and cutbank inspections, including portions of previously recorded Sites 41FB190, 41FB191, 41FB192, 41FB280 and 41FB281.
