Moving Beyond The Mask: The Progression Of Women In Christina Rossetti's Poetry, Marianne Skoczek

In this paper I will be concerned with one of these more neglected perspectives. I will be looking at the image of women as portrayed in Rossetti's non-devotional poetry, showing that, contrary to what I suppose could be called popular (literary) opinion, her women are often -- and increasingly so -- strong rather than weak, and that Rossetti herself was a conscious observer and critic of the "options" open to the Victorian woman. The objective of this paper is to examine the impact of the New International Economic Order (NIEO) on women in the Arab World. We shall discuss this impact in two steps: First, the implications of the NIEO for the economies of the Arab countries. Second, and on the basis of that, the impact of the NIEO on the educational and employment profiles of Arab women. This brief study of the role of women in the labor force of Egypt has occupied my time and attention, off and on, for about two years. While I alone am responsible for the final result, a number of people have helped reduce its deficiencies in one way or another and I owe each of them a special debt. The Anti-Polygamy Society was established in 1878 to try to encourage Congress to abolish the practice of plural marriage tn Utah Territory. In the brief time that it existed, the women of this Utah-based group sent petitions, circulars, and letters to Congress and many leaders of the country urging that laws be passed to end polygamy. Much of their work was also carried out in the society's newspaper, the Anti-polygamy Standard.
By the time that laws were passed that restricted polygamy, the Anti-polygamy Society no longer existed. Nonetheless, the society was important in the anti-polygamy crusade because it was …

Oberlin College is frequently mentioned in connection with women's education, women's rights, or the struggle for women's emancipation. The following passage from the 1834 First Circular is invariably cited: Oberlin's founders strove for"… the elevation of female character, by bringing within the reach of the misjudged and neglected sex, all the instructive privileges which hitherto have unreasonably distinguished the leading sex from theirs." Discussions seek to prove either that Oberlin is to be praised for its correct and "liberated" goals, or that it is to be condemned for hypocrisy in not going as far as publicized in the First Circular. …

This thesis will examine Beauvoir's views on women, her unique brand of feminism. The following questions will be pursued: How did Beauvoir break out of the traditional female role as a young woman? What were Beauvoir's views on women in general? On various types of women? How do Beauvoir's novels reflect her attitudes toward the condition of women? And why? How did other aspects of her thought- her attraction to existentialism and Marxism, her rebellion against her bourgeois background, affect her response to feminist issues?

The Episcopal Churchwomen of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina Records consist of histories, minutes, reports, correspondence, financial records, program notes, photographs, newspaper clippings, journals, handbooks, yearbooks, and scrapbooks relating to the history of the Episcopal Church in the Upstate of South Carolina and women’s role in the Church. Of particular interest are the records relating to the Bishops Committee on Race Relations and the Bi-Racial Committee, which was concerned with a Voorhees College disturbance in which black power militants seized control of the college facilities in 1967.
