Moving Beyond The Mask: The Progression Of Women In Christina Rossetti's Poetry, Marianne Skoczek

In this paper I will be concerned with one of these more neglected perspectives. I will be looking at the image of women as portrayed in Rossetti's non-devotional poetry, showing that, contrary to what I suppose could be called popular (literary) opinion, her women are often -- and increasingly so -- strong rather than weak, and that Rossetti herself was a conscious observer and critic of the "options" open to the Victorian woman. The objective of this paper is to examine the impact of the New International Economic Order (NIEO) on women in the Arab World. We shall discuss this impact in two steps: First, the implications of the NIEO for the economies of the Arab countries. Second, and on the basis of that, the impact of the NIEO on the educational and employment profiles of Arab women. This brief study of the role of women in the labor force of Egypt has occupied my time and attention, off and on, for about two years. While I alone am responsible for the final result, a number of people have helped reduce its deficiencies in one way or another and I owe each of them a special debt.
