The first seven or eight pioneer families, about whom we have already written, realized that there were two elements which are very important to the life and endurance of any enterprise. They are religious worship and education. To carry out these major projects, a school house was built about one half mile east and about one mile north of the present location. Here began the education of the pioneer children. It was here that these seven families met for worship. Notestein Family Collection

This seven-generation family tree was part of a file assembled by Ruth Kline Lee in June of 1976. The file was titled, " Notestein Family Data". The first page of this document is the full family tree, with the subsequent pages displaying a typed version of the first page. The top of the chart lists Johann Jacob Nothstein, who married Barbara Weiss (nee Roth) in May of 1676. The family tree ends with Sky Kashi, who was born in November of 1970. On the typed pages of the family tree, there are handwritten notes and corrections.

With the single exception of a survey of Chinese history in the Western United States written by the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, there exists no other documented history of the Chinese experience in Utah.

This paper offers an overview of Pioneer Chinese life in Utah territory from the Chinese railroad laborers in Box Elder County to the Chinatown settlement in Silver Reef mining camp in Washington County. Old Chinese customs, individual Chinese personalities and communities are rediscovered through the use of census data, newspaper editorials, and oral interviews. During most of the 1830's, the Church was headquartered at Kirtland, Ohio. The thrust of her missionary effort toward the populous east came from that center. The impact of that proselyting work on Ohio's neighboring state, Pennsylvania, is the subject of this thesis. This study is concerned with the background and history of the missionary work in Pennsylvania as a part of the greater history of the Church in the 1830's. This thesis is also concerned with the results of that missionary work. Pennsylvania provided missionaries to teach in New York, New England, Canada and elsewhere and laid the foundation …

The Primary Association of the LDS Church is an organization assigned to direct week-day religious training of children four to twelve years of age. The object of this study was to determine what factors led to the birth of the movement, how the early program developed, what its main features were, what some of the major problems were and how they were solved, who some of the prominent people were in the movement, and what were some of its major accomplishments.

As a result they have neglected significant developments in the history of the education of American women because it was not until the nineteenth century that formal institutions were opened to women. The Washington meeting of October 5, 1963, was an encouraging sign of interest in the usefulness of the Swiss American Historical Society on the part of the official representative of Switzerland in this country. It did not solve any of the immediate problems, however. The society was without leadership and its activities had ceased a number of years ago. Mapleton, a small rural Utah community located on the benchlands between Hobble Creek Canyon and Spanish Fork Canyon fifty miles south of Salt Lake City, was settled in the late 1860s and early 1870s by Springvllle and Spanish Fork families who built their homes on their individual farms. These families did not follow traditional Mormon settlement patterns with a City of Zion plat as their guide; their community grew along quite different lines. Its inhabitants never heard a "call" nor did they have their land alloted to them by their church.

Traditionally, improvements in the quality of life in Britain resulted from the temporary fusion of sometimes opposite interests which spurred Parliamentary action. Therefore, reform was rarely a party issue. Each reform question was treated separately and never as a part of a body of similar measures. Individuals were free to support or oppose particular reforms according to their own interests and motivations. The result of this lack of strong consistent reformist sentiment was a pattern of piece-meal legislative action with a notable absence of comprehensive social planning.
