The purpose of my research paper was to study, analyze and compare cymbal-making processes by popular and independent cymbal manufacturers to understand the individual elements that make cymbals sound the way they do. I researched the history of cymbals, their alloy construct, their physical sound design, and their frequency output.

My investigation of individual cymbals began with understanding how each cymbal was made, what it consisted of, and how those factors applied to the sound the cymbal made when a drumstick struck it. I measured the frequency output of five different cymbals by recording each cymbal as it was struck …

At the present, there is minimal scholarly research on the origin story of Bay Area hip-hop to compliment the various articles and books authored by hip-hop experts and artists. The consensus that emerges from the existing secondary literature is that hip-hop originated on the East Coast and later emerged on the West Coast with its own unique style. These accounts, while well documented, only include a few mainstream figures and styles related to the Los Angeles hip-hop scene. In 1947 the British rule in the Indian subcontinent ended, resulting in the partition of British India into the modern states of India and Pakistan. At the time the Punjab province was also partitioned, with the western half (including Lahore) going to Pakistan and the eastern half being awarded to India. The Spanish-Cuban-American War, declared by the United States on April 25, 1898, marks a colonial shift in the history of the Caribbean and solidified the expansionist thrust of the United States outside national borders. Theatres in turn-of-the-century New York, which at this point was one of the theatrical centers of the nation, debated for audiences the imperialist character of the U.S. The Cuban struggle and the resulting Spanish-Cuban-American War permeated U.S. drama, thereby portraying a Caribbean in need of salvation by the military intervention of the United States. This text was originally a brief speech in a debate – Dialogues and Itineraries of the South from Kinshasa: Art, History and Education that took place at Mário de Andrade Library’s Auditorium in São Paulo (Brazil) on October 26^th 2016. It draws from questions and discussions in Kinshasa, concerning arts education, the challenges in decolonizing curriculum and methods, connecting them to South African experiences, particularly at the Wits School of Arts (Johannesburg) and also from the Another Road Map School research group workshops.

A Study In Sovereignty: Federalism, Political Culture, And The Future Of Conservatism, Clint Hamilton

This thesis confronts symptoms of an issue which is eroding at the principles of conservative advocacy, specifically those dealing with federalism. It contrasts modern definitions of federalism with those which existed in the late 1700s, and then attempts to determine the cause of the change. Concluding that the change was caused by a shift in American political identity, the author argues that the conservative movement must begin a conversation on how best to adapt to the change to prevent further drifting away from conservative principles.

This thesis explores how the advertising of coffee has evolved over the past three centuries by comparing the timing of historical events with their concurrent coffee advertisements and the corresponding popularity of coffee and its evolving variations. I have conducted primary research by analyzing coffee advertisements in newspapers, commercials, magazines, and on social media. I have used this research to determine when companies initiated different approaches in order to advertise their coffee. Since the conclusion of the Second World War, understanding trauma and PTSD in relation to the progression of both history and basic human nature, especially during times of uncertainty, has grown in popularity. The study of PTSD was first introduced by Johannes Hofer, in 1688, as a form of nostalgia, but in recent decades, the definition of emotional trauma has been debated. Siegfried Sassoon, a famous poet during the World Wars, wrote about trauma in terms of its impact. Written by a librarian and a history professor, this article describes a primary source literacy project for students. In addition, this essay reports the project’s effectiveness in teaching undergraduates to analyze information and develop primary source literacy. The methodology employed included a research project with 24 undergraduates, along with a pre- and post-survey. The research project and student survey incorporated principles from the Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy, published in 2017 by the ACRL’s Rare Books & Manuscripts Section and the Society of American Archivists. In early July 1830, shortly following her baptism, Emma Smith received a revelation through her husband, Joseph Smith, about her position and responsibilities in the new Church of Christ. In 1921 Langston Hughes penned, “My soul has grown deep like the rivers” in his poem “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” (Hughes 1254). Weaving the profound pain of the African American experience with the symbolism of the primordial river, Hughes recognized the inherent power of water as a means of spiritual communication and religious significance. Since the death of fascist dictator Francisco Franco in 1975, Spain has witnessed one of the greatest explosions in its real population in the nation’s history, brought about by extensive migrations from Africa and the Middle East. The increasing presence of immigrants, particularly from predominantly Muslim-countries, has forced Spain to reflect on its own idiosyncratic past of coexistence and violent exclusion between Catholics and Muslims. This exposition investigates how Spain’s unique history has produced a confusing atmosphere for Muslim migrants, who profess a deep kinship towards the country, but who are systematically marginalized by Spanish immigration law.
