This Writing for the Humanities website includes the syllabus, schedule, assignments, and OER reading materials for the course. The syllabus covers a number of genres, and examines what it means to write for the humanities. This stretches beyond Art and Literature to cover History, Philosophy, Theater, Music, and Media Communications. The assignments are designed to help students in their future careers, especially if they aim to work in the Humanities, which include teaching, curating, counseling, technical writing and journalism. An Exploratory Survey Of Code-Switching In The Coachella Valley, Ca, Allan K. Escobar

This thesis surveyed a group of second generation Mexican-American Spanish-English bilingual speakers in the Coachella Valley, California to determine common motives for code-switching in speech. In previous studies, motives or triggers to code-switching have been identified and recorded in major urban cities such as Los Angeles and New York, and this thesis seeks to identify this phenomenon in the rural and agricultural cities of the Coachella Valley, with focus on Indio and Coachella, CA. Data Diving Into “Noticing Poetry”: An Analysis Of Student Engagement With The “I Notice” Method, Scot Slaby, Jordan Benedict
Journal of Inquiry and Action in Education
This paper explores students’ engagement in reading poems, examining data on their self perceptions of their confidence and competence in reading poems before, during, and after using the “I Notice” methodology as adapted from The Academy of American Poets’ unit plan, “Noticing Poetry” (Slaby, 2017). The data was collected over the course of a month from January 9 through January 30, 2018 and involved five classes of one hundred general English tenth grade students across three teachers’ classrooms at Shanghai American School’s Puxi High School Campus.
