The Covid-19 pandemic has affected people in many different ways. With the shutdown of the entire country, many people lost their jobs, people became infected with the virus, major events were cancelled, and sports were shut down. In specific, collegiate athletics were cancelled indefinitely. Student-athletes across the country lost their sports’ seasons. Being an athlete is a role that students tie to their identity, and with the loss of their seasons, student-athletes faced athletic identity loss. Through 6 interviews with Johnson & Wales student-athletes, this study aims to investigate how the cancellation of sports’ seasons due to Covid-19 affected the …

Introduction: There have many reported differences in the gut microbiota composition in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared to typically developed (TD) healthy cohorts (HC). This study aims to review existing literature and current studies regarding the role of the gut microbiota in the development of ASD. Additionally, this study aims to determine if there is a correlation between gut microbiome dysbiosis and an increased severity in ASD symptoms. Methods: An extensive literature search was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) system. Accommodations For Nonbinary Youth In Girl Scouts And Boy Scouts, Karen Brandt

Objective: To understand what the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA) are doing to accommodate nonbinary youth in their organizations. Method: Qualitative interviews with scouting management and nonbinary alumni and a discourse analysis on key scouting documents. Findings: Both organizations were open to nonbinary youth, but enthusiasm in welcoming them varied both between the organizations and across the country within each group. Girl Scouts self-classified as progressive while Boy Scouts did not; a nonbinary alumnus of Girl Scouts did not feel strongly about either organization. Conclusion: The findings highlight the need …

This document is a thesis project submitted in partial fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre. It is a detailed account of author Morgan Benson’s artistic process in creating the role Myra Arundel in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s production of Hay Fever in Fall of 2021. The thesis project chronicles the actor’s artistic process from pre-production through performance in five chapters: a pre-production analysis, a historical and critical perspective, a rehearsal and performance journal, a post-production analysis and a process development analysis. Pulling the intangible cloud to the forefront, this exhibition transforms the ethereal image of the cloud into the tangible paper and canvas representations that flirt between what is and what can be. I combine techniques from drawing, painting, and papermaking, to create clouds that leave the heavens and solidify and yet spark the imagination in new directions. Since the centennial celebration of Norwegian migration to America in 1925, historians have frequently reflected upon the creation of the Norwegian American identity throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Eusebian Canon Ten In Codex Fuldensis, James W. Barker

Eusebius of Caesarea innovated a system for locating Gospel parallels by sorting hundreds of sections into ten canons. Two centuries later, Victor of Capua produced Codex Fuldensis, a Vulgate New Testament replacing the separate Gospels with a harmony and the Eusebian apparatus. Whereas Eusebius’s Canon X demarcated unparalleled material, Victor’s scribe repeatedly wrote Canon X within episodes occurring in other Gospels. I argue that these paratextual solecisms illuminate the production of the codex. Victor occasionally wrote a single section number in the margin of his Vorlage to direct his scribe. The scribe then mislabeled the passage as Canon X. In …

Abomination is a collection of creative nonfiction essays through which I examine my sexual and gender identity alongside negotiating the trauma of my childhood, adolescences, and early adulthood. I specifically interrogate how evangelical Christianity acted as a traumatizing agent in its focus on the total depravity of humanity and demonization of queerness. I explore the various ways language impacts and constructs individuals and their experiences. The essays in this collection partly come together to form a narrative of my life; however, this collection is not arranged to be chronological. There is no singular narrative arc. "Hopefully there will be soon peace in Ukraine, and another attempt at reconciliation in Western Balkans. Even as mostly symbolic and commemorative practices, these endeavors proved that they improve social trust and reduce interethnic tensions. There still remains the question about the purpose and long-term goals of such reconciliation efforts. In my 2021 book, Reconciliation and Last Days, published in Belgrade, Serbia, I argue that postwar reconciliation projects make sense, provided there is a new beginning for wartime enemies, that is, the peoples, faiths, and states in the region. At the conclusion of World War II, American citizens, including millions of deployed servicemen, reasserted the democratic freedoms they sacrificed to win the war. The American intervention in North China during the Chinese Civil War presented a ripe opportunity for civic restoration in late 1945. Controversial and seemingly at odds with the stated goals of the Second World War—namely the “Four Freedoms” and the Atlantic Charter—the US military presence in North China faced formidable domestic political obstacles. This thesis explores the nexus of domestic politics and foreign policy in the post-World War II era. Focusing on 1945-1946, this project steps …

In this paper I argue that many of the philosophical problems with the concept of wilderness can be mitigated by thinking of wilderness as an aesthetic concept rather than as a real feature of the world or a special metaphysical category. In Section 1, I respond to arguments for wilderness no longer being extant in the world as well as being conceptually contradictory by examining the ways in which people continue to experience wilderness in spite of these challenges. For as long as stories have been told, written, and performed heroes have been the measures of a culture. A people’s values, their fears, their hopes, their customs have all been preserved in the stories of their heroes, and in recent decades, I would argue, in the stories of their superheroes. Tracing modern depictions of cinematic superheroes back to some of the earliest extant narratives of heroes in Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, we see that most of our heroes in the past three millennia have been men. This thesis examines the narrative portrayals of issues pertaining to anthropogenic extinction in two contemporary speculative fiction novels: Jeff VanderMeer’s Hummingbird Salamander (2021) and James Bradley’s Ghost Species (2020). This focus leads to consideration of narrative genre, tropes, and affective resonance. The first half of this thesis centers the genres of tragedy and elegy, their tropes of ghosts and hauntings, and the affective processes of grief and horror. Within these narrative frameworks extinction is experienced as a claustrophobic site of horror in Hummingbird Salamander, and as a time-warping inspiration of grief in Ghost Species. However, in each novel …

“Damming Paradise” examines the transformation of the political economy of the Mountain West through the development of hydropower over the course of the twentieth century. Beginning with early attempts to regulate electricity marketing and dam construction, this thesis traces the development of a conservation paradigm which insisted upon full development of water resources and public ownership of hydropower facilities. The author then follows that development through the New Deal and Post War eras, focusing particular attention on the Kerr Dam (now Seli’š Ksanka Qlispe’ Dam) and Hungry Horse Dam on Montana’s Flathead River. “Damming Paradise” then examines the attempt to …

The American West sits at a dangerous position in the age of climate change. Wildfires burn hotter, longer, and cover more area than ever measured. Decreased snowpack, early spring run-off, a glut of built-up timber in parks and public lands, and longer droughts all build upon one another, and it just takes one spark to start a raging wildfire that devastates a community. As such, a firefighting force is needed to deal with this changing landscape.
