We can observe the conductor’s work at his performances and rehearsals. However, we cannot see the process of score preparation from the time they get the score to the downbeat of the first rehearsal because the conductor does this work alone. This dissertation discusses the debate among conductors past and present about whether, when, and how to use recordings as part of the score preparation. It considers the advantages and disadvantages of using recordings in the score preparation process. I conducted several types of research on the use of recordings by living conductors. In the period following World War II, countries such as Japan, Vietnam, and Thailand were under constant intellectual bombardment from global superpowers vying for political influence. West Germany, a newly established ally of Western democracy, was a small part of a global effort to spread this democracy to Asia. Working alongside Joachim-Ernst Berendt and the Goethe Institute, the jazz trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff arranged an album which sought to merge both Western European and Asian music. The album, Now Jazz Ramwong (1964), and accompanying fifty-concert tour helped pioneer a lasting cultural connection between Western Europe and Asia. The methodology behind Now …

African American (AA) women have a 54.8% overall obesity rate in the United States. This quantitative cross-sectional study’s aim was to determine what factors may have an impact on body image perceptions of AA women in Alabama and New Jersey. A gap in research this study addressed is sociodemographic and geographic differences that may impact obesity rates among AA women. The theoretical framework used for this study was the social cognitive theory. Secondary data were obtained from the 2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Procurement fraud occurs at various stages of the procurement lifecycle and can be very costly to organizations. Business managers are concerned with the enormous impact of procurement fraud on business revenue. Grounded in Cressey’s fraud triangle theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore strategies business managers use to detect, control, and prevent procurement fraud successfully. The participants were six procurement managers in Ghanaian gold mining companies who successfully detected, controlled, and prevented procurement fraud. The essays in this dissertation explore why female landowners may be less likely than male landowners to achieve long term conservation on their land. In Chapter 1 we develop theory to model the strategic interaction between a landowner and a tenant with a focus on their gender and implementation of conservation practices on land. Within the context of a sequential-move game, we use the principal-agent framework and identity theory to model land-use choice and equilibrium payoffs between landowner and tenant. On October 28, 1918, after the end of the Great War, Slovakia became part of the Czechoslovak Republic. Two decades later, on October 6, 1938, the country’s political leadership declared autonomy, and within a few months, on March 14, 1939, the Slovak National Assembly voted for the establishment of an independent state. Already during the period of autonomy, the government adopted anti-Jewish legislation (this trend would continue throughout the brief lifespan of the new state) aimed at gradually shutting Jews out of social and economic life. 劉義慶《宣驗記》是中國志怪小説之一，被魯迅評為釋氏輔教之書。中國人本身深受儒家和道家思想影響，佛教能立根中國，為中國人所認識，實有賴社會環境和佛教徒的努力，社會也漸漸出現信奉佛教的作家，他們創作小說時會加入佛教思想。另外，《宣驗記》中的佛教故事不但能宣揚佛家思想，對後世創作也帶來巨大影響。然而，現在大部分有關六朝志怪小說研究的學術文章主要分析小說中的佛家思想或其分類，但缺少全面的研究，如︰佛教發展興盛的原因和佛教故事帶來的影響。

故本論文先概述佛教在六朝的發展和原因。其次分析《宣驗記》小說故事內容與其佛家思想，進一步佛教在六朝社會傳播的情形、六朝社會狀況和民眾佛教信仰的情況。最後分析《宣驗記》中的佛教故事在宗教和文學上作出什麼貢獻。

論蘇軾櫽栝詞, Po Man Law

蘇軾是宋朝著名的文學家，他詩文了得，熟悉音律，但最大的貢獻莫過於提升詞的地位。除了豪放詞，蘇軾也有創立櫽栝詞體，並使櫽栝詞在日後成為獨立的詞體。然而作為櫽栝詞開山鼻祖的蘇軾，其櫽栝詞卻甚少被研究，且因定義問題，前人的研究頗有參差。本篇論文從蘇軾的九首櫽栝詞展開討論，組織前人研究並為櫽栝進行定義，隨後將蘇軾的櫽栝詞分為「與原文相近」、「略有增損」、「與原文不相近」及「沒有按照原文櫽栝」四類，從詞牌、音律及內容轉變探討它們與原文的藝術形式改變。因蘇軾的九首櫽栝詞中，有八首寫於謫居黃州的時期，所以能充分表露蘇軾於文學高峰時期曠達自適，不將功名利祿放入眼內，但在同時為自己的遭遇哀歎的矛盾心態。另外，蘇軾的櫽栝詞隱含了頗多哲學思想，且初步透露了蘇軾後期的「三教合一」思想。本篇論文最後探討後人對蘇軾櫽栝詞褒貶不一的評價，然而不少後人模仿蘇軾的櫽栝詞，甚至有只寫櫽栝詞的詞人，因此蘇軾的櫽栝詞對櫽栝詞體甚為重要。另外因大部分櫽栝詞寫於黃州時期，所以對研究蘇軾的黃州時期頗有幫助。從幾方面均可證明蘇軾的櫽栝詞有充分的研究價值，不可被忽略。

探析鮑照賦的藝術特徵 : 情與景、情與物的關係, Chun Mei Tam

鮑照（約414年－466年）是南宋時期（420年－479年）傑出的文學家，他擅寫詩、賦與散文，其中以詩歌創作成就最為卓著。故此，歷代學者都集中研究他的樂府詩和七言詩，較少關注其詩歌以外的創作。關於鮑照賦的討論，學者往往聚焦於其著作《蕪城賦》，而對其他賦作或是有所忽略，或是各有偏重。從「情與景」、「情與物」的角度進行梳理和探究的論著依然缺失，這無疑削弱了對鮑照賦的整體論述。

有鑑於此，本論文將以鮑照賦作為主要的研究對象，結合相關的文藝理論，探討當中的「情與景」、「情與物」的關係，旨在探究其整體的藝術價值。另外，針對某些頗具爭議性的賦作也會進行深度剖析。本文由五大章節組成，在緒論部分將綜述鮑照賦的研究現況，並在此基礎上闡述本論文的研究意義。第二章簡述中國古代的文藝理論，說明選取王夫之的《薑齋詩話》和劉勰的《文心雕龍·詮賦》作為研究鮑照賦的原因。第三章以王夫之的《薑齋詩話》為依據，從「景中情」、「情中景」、「情景妙合無垠」來探析鮑照抒情賦中的「情與景」的關係。第四章以劉勰的《文心雕龍·詮賦》為依據，從「情以物興」、「物以情觀」、「物我交融」來闡述鮑照詠物賦中的「情與物」的關係。第五章針對鮑照賦的研究現況，抽取富有爭議的篇章來進行深入的分析，從而表明《觀漏賦》具有「題為詠物，實為抒情」的特色。結論部分則總結本論文的內容，重申是次的研究意義。

《離騷》的節奏模式, Yee Lok Wan

詩本來便是吟誦的，雖然異於歌曲，但同樣有節奏、韻律的聲音因素影響著讀者或者聽眾的審美經驗。楚地巫風本已甚盛，有其風格獨樹一幟的歌舞、音樂，再受《詩經》滋養，終產生了屈原的各篇楚辭。《離騷》的句腰虛詞有其重要的音樂特性。一方面，它是銜接一詩行中兩組音步的橋樑。另一方面，由於重複出現在幾乎所有詩行的同樣地方，它也成為了詩歌建立節奏感的音步。

本文旨在分析《離騷》的節奏模式。本文以六言句為基礎，透過分析詩行每字、每詞之間的語法和意義關係，得出312模式、句首一字提領、222模式以及213模式四種節奏。當中以句首一字提領為最常見，並據此與其他字數的句子——即五言、七言、八言和九言句——比較。基本上，六言句的節奏模式在其他字數的句子皆有跡可尋，這些句子基本上也是在這些模式上增字、減字，或者疊加而成。五言句基本上以句首一字提領的節奏模式為基礎；至於七言句，讀者可以從中找到所有模式的根據；八言句則可見句首一字提領、213和222模式；最後，唯一的九言句亦以句首一字提領為根據。

電影與歷史：論香港電影中日戰爭的日本形象（1960-1990年代）, Ka Yee Cheung

媒體在很大程度上介入人們對歷史的認知。當歷史的書寫和影像走出了勝利者的演講稿，電影便以多元的姿態對歷史進行見證與回顧。擴展題材、意識形態、歷史的來源等方式再現和豐富歷史，電影人獨到的見解都增添了歷史的複雜性和曖昧性。而再現的過程必然會被其時代和周遭的世界滲透影響。影片的價值在於它提供了一種社會與歷史角度的詮釋方式，影片與其周遭的世界必然互相溝通。由此電影的背景與敘述成為我們研究和理解歷史與社會的參數。

對中國人而言，中日戰爭（1939-1945）是一道陳年的傷疤，如今仍以各種媒介傳載這段歷史。在1949年後，面對曾經的敵人，中港台三地皆隨著語境的變遷有不同的回應。而電影，作為歷史的敘述者，也在繼續重現、萃取、呈現不同的視野和維度。作為曾經的丑角，香港電影對日本的記憶在60年代起產生了曖昧的變化。在港英政府的管治下，民族主義沒成為主流，與日本的關係變得密切。但電影對中日戰爭這一題材仍處理得小心翼翼，無論是電影還是社會都仍未能完全消化日本「侵略者」的歷史。八、九十年代，人們開始集中關注本地經濟、身分、社會、回歸等問題。戰爭歷史不再是主要題材，更多作為我們了解社會的憑據。沒有經歷戰爭的香港影人對中日戰爭的呈現表現出一種過去與旁觀的態度。

這一脈絡展現香港社會，或香港影人在不同年代如何回應中日戰爭這段歷史，同時這與社會發展密不可分。由此，本文將分別分析1960至1990年代四套與中日戰爭相關的電影，包括：《最長的一夜》（1965），《廣島廿八》（1974），《傾城之戀》（1984）及《客途秋恨》（1990）。本文將結合電影背景、社會、作者等因素具體分析電影中日本印象的呈現與轉變。

林夕歌詞的比喻與比擬研究, Po Yan Cheng

近年香港各明星組合冒起，流行曲又再掀起熱潮。從六、七十年代到今，每個時期都有各自的當紅歌手和填詞人。能橫跨樂壇三十多年，詞作出色令人驚嘆的非他莫屬──林夕。

林夕原名梁偉文，從八十年代中開始填流行歌詞。林夕詞作除了產量多，更出色於用典、節奏、故事性、宗教思想等。因此對林夕歌詞之研究每多圍繞其主題或概念，甚少以歌詞細讀的形式分析。

文本將從修辭角度入手，分析林夕歌詞中的比喻與比擬運用。正文將分成三部份──第一部份分析其歌詞中的比喻與比擬如何加強情感；第二部份分析其歌詞中的比喻與比擬如何營造意象；第三部份分析其歌詞中的比喻與比擬在情感和意象上如何相輔相成地突出主題，達至共融。
