Letter, 11 March 1920, to her friend “Mabel” (suffragist Mabel Vernon?) from author, reformer and activist Dorothy Canfield Fisher, Arlington, Vermont. She reports on seeing mutual friends at a speaking engagement but expresses an unwillingness to accept further invitations in favor of home life and a “big piece of work” she has recently undertaken. She also refers to her three-year residence in France, which put her out of touch with news at home.

Online Writing Center: Developing A Virtual Owl On Blackboard, Drew A. Glover Jan 2022

Online Writing Center: Developing A Virtual Owl On Blackboard, Drew A. Glover

Theses and Dissertations

At the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), the University Writing Center (UWC) uses an asynchronous emailed-based system for its online writing conferencing. This service has changed little since its original inception. The Blackboard Online Writing Lab (OWL) was developed as a replacement to those services. The Blackboard OWL features both synchronous and asynchronous writing conferences, along with resources such as handouts, videos, slide presentations, and a rich repository of online web tools. An update to UALR UWC's online services is important because higher education is moving toward increased and faster paced distance learning, and it may become even …

Avila, Jose Francisco Interview Part 1, Bronx African American History Project

Oral Histories

Jose Francisco Avila was born in the Garifuna village of Cristalis, near the city of Trujillo in Honduras. He moved with his family as at 15 years old to the United States because his parents wanted better opportunities, specifically educational opportunities, for him and his siblings. They moved to the Dorchester neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts, where Avila had to quickly learn English at the Boston School for Immigrants, before attending Solomon Lewenberg Junior High School and Boston English High until 1981. Living in a predominantly Black neighborhood in a city with a relatively small Garifuna community, there was constant questioning …

Women During The Governorship Of Dale Bumpers, Amanda Whitley Jan 2022

Women During The Governorship Of Dale Bumpers, Amanda Whitley

Theses and Dissertations

Among the most important issues women have experienced is the lack of equality between the genders. In the 1970s women were close to achieving the equal opportunity they had been fighting for. The creation of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was one of the most contentious issues of the time. This was no different in Arkansas as evidenced by the local opinions expressed in the many letters received by Governor Dale Bumpers. The opinions were overwhelmingly opposed to the ratification of the ERA. In the end the voices of its citizens were heard. Arkansas would not ratify this ERA.
