Racial disparities in breast cancer are well-documented, and Black women assume a disproportionate burden of breast cancer mortality. Black women also commonly use hair products containing endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) more often at an increased rate, as compared to other racial/ethnic groups. Emerging findings have reported the use of hair and other personal care products containing EDCs may contribute to breast cancer risk. While some sociocultural perspectives about hair and identity have been explored, the role of beauty expectations upheld by males has not been studied. Asking “is what is being demanded politically realistic?” or “politically possible?” is a persistent problem with the ways many liberals who imagine themselves as progressive still think about ending systemic racial discrimination, and about protests against racism. Such questions ask us to measure “the realistic” and “the possible” prior to making political demands, and presume that the efficacy of social protest movements correlates with a tacit agreement between activists and those in power about what politics should look like. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تسليط الضوء على أهم السمات العامة والمهنية والأخلاقية للشبكات الإخبارية الإلكترونية الأردنية فضلاً عن دراستها لمدى اعتبار تلك الشبكات مصدراً موثوقاً للمعلومات. استخدمت هذه الدراسة الوصفية المنهج المسحي، والاستبانة كأداة لجمع المعلومات على عينة متاحة من الصحفيين الأردنيين، بلغ عددها 245 مفردة. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى أن نسبة 14.7% من أفراد عينة الدراسة، يعدُّون الشبكات الإخبارية الإلكترونية الأردنية مصدراً موثوقاً للمعلومات بصورة دائمة، في حين يرى 72.7% أنها تعد "أحياناً" مصدراً موثوقاً للمعلومات، بينما يرى 10.6% منهم أنها ليست مصدراً موثوقاً للمعلومات. ويرى 56.3% من أفراد عينة الدراسة، أن الشبكات الإخبارية الأردنية تقدم "أحياناً" رؤية للأحداث تختلف …

Insufficient physical activity is a risk factor for many non-communicable diseases, therefore; the purpose of this study is to examine university students’ perceived exercise benefits and barriers. This cross-sectional descriptive study used Exercise Benefits/Barriers Scale to examine perceived benefits and barriers to exercise among a convenience sample of 517 university students in Jordan. Participants reported significantly higher perceived barriers to exercise than perceived benefits from exercise. The most important perceived barrier to exercise was “I am too embarrassed to exercise”. Moreover, “I will live longer if I exercise” and “exercising increases being accepted by others” were the most important perceived …

This small-scale mixed method study explored perceptions of how different project management approaches and tools are used by those working in industry and within academia, and how this may impact on collaborative research projects given their distinct and unique nature. The Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) provides small group techniques to strategize and “rehearse” for collaborative liberation using popular education forms of systems analysis, bolstered by practices that counter implicit biases and habituated behaviors. This essay draws on interviews with jokers at CTO-Rio to advocate the need for continual engagement of demechanizing practices both within TO and in the lives of practitioners in order to demechanize the tenets of white supremacy that we are born into, despite our essential loving nature, with particular focus on counteracting a the habit of exploiting Black suffering for creative capital.

Since the pandemic’s arrival,Highlander has created specially tailored on-line community-building spaces, programs, and re-granting opportunities for artists working at the intersection of cultural production and social change. This report documents two examples. The first is a “Cultural Workers Hotline” for BIPOC artists to share struggles, needs, and strategies for (a) coping with the impact of the pandemic on their livelihoods and (b) creating change-oriented artistic responses to the pandemic in their communities.
