Mimicry: A Short Play, Diana M. Pho
Mimicry: A Short Play, Diana M. Pho
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
This short play is inspired by the author’s lived experience as a queer Vietnamese-American woman in academia and in US society. This theatrical piece, centered around two young women meeting for the first time after several years, reflects upon the mutable divergence of shared memory, while also exploring intersectional feminist theory and the Vietnamese-American community. This is also a critique of US-based stereotypes about young Asian-American women, and how social prejudices and microaggressions can result in internalized anti-Asian misogyny. Like the range of identities and life experiences that characters Laurel and Mattie have, the Asian diasporic experience in the United …

From Creative Writing To A Self’S Liberation: A Monologue Of A Struggling Writer, Ethan Trinh
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
The pressure of being alone in a new country and of surviving in a competitive academia has scared me to death. I cannot find any better way to heal me other than writing. Writing helps me make sense of the worlds and come closer to my true self. This piece is journeying from my own struggles of a Vietnamese, queer, immigrant teacher to accept who I am as a writer. In addition, writing this piece helps me get closer to decademizing academic writing in higher education.

An Analysis Of Perceptual Masking Between Stems In Manually-Mixed Multitrack Audio Using A Cross-Analytic Loudness Model, Brian H. Cofer
An Analysis Of Perceptual Masking Between Stems In Manually-Mixed Multitrack Audio Using A Cross-Analytic Loudness Model, Brian H. Cofer
Student Theses
In music production, there are many tools available to an audio engineer throughout the mixing process to bring a song to completion. Among the most common are level balancing, equalization (EQ), and compression. However, these tools still require the subjective judgments of human engineers to create the desired listening experience. While automated mixing algorithms have been increasingly studied, they have yet to match the skills of even an amateur mixing engineer, in major part, because the subjective mixing decisions of an engineer are difficult to replicate by automated systems. The following research was developed with the primary goal of objectively …
Bernanos, Claudel, Mauriac And Maritain: A Quartet Not Always Full Of Christian Charity ‘A Catholic Has No Allies. He Only Has Brothers’: Letters Shed Light On Four Leading French Writers, Eamon Maher
Articles
The publication by the French Dominican publisher Cerf of the epistolary correspondence between four of France’s best known Catholic intellectuals and writers, Georges Bernanos, Paul Claudel, François Mauriac and Jacques Maritain, reveals serious rifts and, at times, a definite lack of Christian charity in the sentiments they shared with one another. The correspondence centres on Maritain’s exchanges with the other three, which is most probably due to the fact that he and his wife Raïssa were seriously revered and much consulted figures in cultural circles in France at the time when the other writers were at the peak of their …
Ivan And His Doubles: The Failure Of Intellect In The Brothers Karamazov, Alex Donley
Ivan And His Doubles: The Failure Of Intellect In The Brothers Karamazov, Alex Donley
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
The purpose of this research is to explore Dostoevsky’s theodicy in The Brothers Karamazov, including key critical commentary that enhances an understanding of the text. One of the novel’s title characters, Ivan, embodies the emerging spirit of intellectualism and freethinking in nineteenth-century Europe. He confronts the Christian concept of God in two famous speeches. First, Ivan’s “Rebellion” epitomizes the problem of evil by asking why an omnipotent, omnibenevolent God allows earthy atrocities. Second, Ivan’s “Grand Inquisitor” rejects the moral freedom given to men, reasoning that it is too great a burden for mankind to bear. These arguments remain relevant …
Once Upon A Time On Mango Street, Drake Deornellis
Once Upon A Time On Mango Street, Drake Deornellis
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
This paper examines how the use of fairytale allusions in Sandra Cisneros’ The House on Mango Street critiques and recreates standard constructions of female identity. Narrated by the young main character Esperanza, the novel explores the experiences of a variety of Latina women living on Mango Street. As Esperanza retells these stories, she frequently compares these women to fairytale characters, such as Cinderella and Rapunzel. These fairytales often define women as either “angels” or “monsters”: either they are perfect, or they are evil. Furthermore, this perfection for women is associated with dependence and passivity. As the women in the novel …
