Like any other branch of journalism, a photojournalist’s intent is to capture an image that conveys the the events represented in the image while evoking an emotional response that allows the viewer to connect with the content of the photo or news report to which the photo is attached. Under the umbrella of photojournalism, political photography is unique in that it is heavily swayed by public opinion. This project intends to introduce a duel perspective on visual sentiment in political photojournalism.

This article aims to investigate the changing political alignment of the Chilean Catholic Church following the fall of the dictatorship in the early 1990’s. The author brings together a primary source collection of of new articles, photographs, and interviews, as well as a secondary source collection of sociological surveys and historiography, to interrogate the process and outcome of this political transition. The article maintains that desires for hierarchical control and a rejection of past, progressive theology motivated Church leaders to transition the Church away from community based leadership, to clerical control.

L’Affaire D’Antoine: Colonial Tensions Of Freedom And Power, Marisa Mancini , '20

In 1774, living in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, Antoine bought his freedom from the Gentil de Paroy, only to be arrested by his former master two years later and accused of using poison. With his mother, Lisette, a free woman of color, advocating for him, the local courts in Le Cap Français found Antoine innocent of the alleged crime and upheld his freedom only for this freedom to be revoked by the French monarchy. Situating Antoine’s case into the history of Saint-Domingue highlights the social and political contradictions surrounding citizenship and sovereignty that were inherent to colonial society in …

The Effects Within A Church Of A Music Program For Special Needs Students, Stephanie Jean Toepoel

This project investigated the effects that a faith-based music class for special needs students had upon the students, their families, and the participating church body. Two special needs students participated in a four-week faith-based general music class sponsored by their local church. Significant spiritual growth was demonstrated by the families of the special needs students and the church body and was reported in personal interviews and anonymous surveys. The study evaluated the physical, cognitive, and spiritual progress the students demonstrated during the four-week class. Data was collected through researcher observation and journaling, audiovisual recordings, personal interviews of the assistant teacher, …

The purpose of this dissertation is to describe the development of an instructional program to teach and instruct ministry leaders in spiritual formation. The research reveals that current ministry leaders either lack a level of comfort in discipling team members or lack the capacity to teach and instruct volunteers in spiritual formation. If current ministry leaders do not disciple well, then future leaders will lack necessary leadership skills—an ominous outcome. This paper analyzes the history of cybercrime rhetoric through the 1989 hacking of the earliest internet network, ARPANET. The event is useful for understanding how contagion rhetoric of the computer science professionals imprints onto the public consciousness, security agencies, and legal institutions.
