This dissertation examined the experiences of Black middle school girls who attend predominantly white, elite, independent schools in the Greater Los Angeles area. Using Critical Race Theory, Black Identity Theory, and Black Feminism Theory as a conceptual framework, this qualitative research explored the role of race, class, gender, and parental support as contributing factors to the development of participants’ racial consciousness. Utilizing timeline interviews and critical narratives to explore the lived histories of each student and parent participant, data analysis included content coding based on themes that emerged throughout the narrative examination. American schooling and Indigenous peoples share a coarse relationship mired by devastating periods of forced removal, indoctrination, and brutal assimilation methods. Over the course of more than a century of failed education policy—though often veiled in good intentions—Indigenous peoples have yet to witness a comprehensive Indigenous education program that fundamentally honors the federal trust responsibility of the United States government. On the contrary, with a contemporary approach of apathy, invisibility, and institutionalization, it is not difficult to see the legacy of settler colonialism continuing to wield its oppressive influence on Indigenous communities. With the premise to ‘write like I dance,’ Writing as dancing investigates new methods of accessing and revealing choreographic thinking in three distinct ways; writing as a soloist, writing for the ensemble and writing responsively in collaboration. Resulting iterations have variously emerged in the form of performance, novella, play, artist-book, exhibition and long form poem; the novella The Dancer in Your Hands, being the primary solo work presented alongside this exegesis.

This practice-led research project has produced musical works that bring together ensembles from the Western Classical tradition that only read notation, and, jazz soloists who improvise. Three works ‘Standing Ground’, ‘The Journey’ and ‘Matt versus the Zombies’ were composed for three ensembles each with an improvising soloist. These ensembles included a British style Brass Band, Brass Quintet and a double Saxophone quartet.

Excessive heat exposure due to rising temperatures associated with climate change adversely affects workers’ health, safety, productivity, and psychosocial well-being in occupational settings. In the hot and tropical regions of developing countries, long hours of physically demanding work, coupled with inadequate adaptation policies to climate change, increases the occurrence of heat-related illnesses and injuries, and contributes to the loss of productive capacity, poor decision making, and other negative effects on the social well-being of workers.

In 589, Reccared, king of the Visigoths in Spain, converted from Arian to Catholic Christianity. Arianism was banned, and after a brief period which saw the repression of rebellions, eliminated from the kingdom. All Goths were required to become Catholic. This watershed in Visigothic history both necessitated and facilitated a renegotiation of the parameters of Gothic identity. The entire kingdom was affected: the ruling Visigoths, the small population of recently conquered Sueves, and the Hispano-Romans who were left under the rule of the Goths when the Western Roman Empire fell apart.^[1] This Roman population also included some Jews. In the age of postfeminism and fourth-wave feminism online, Australian women composers are theoretically able to “have it all,” however, the proportion of women in the occupation appears to have plateaued in recent years. In this thesis, I explore the multiple ways in which gender and feminism interact with practising Australian women composers. Feminist musicology has had a large impact on the Australian musicological scene, with theorists such as McClary and Macarthur bringing the subject of women in music to the fore in the 1990s, aiding efforts to advocate for reform on behalf of women composers. This study used Participatory Action Research (PAR) to investigate the facilitators of disability access in local government, with a focus on the City of Bunbury in Western Australia. In 2014, the City of Bunbury adopted a long-term aspirational goal to become the Most Accessible Regional City in Australia (MARCIA), and the findings and recommendations from this study are intended to inform strategic priorities for achieving that goal, including a potential change of corporate approach required to attain MARCIA status. Historically, material culture in the region has been largely studied for its semiotic properties, decoded as a tangible symbol of “a region apart,” lagging behind the rest of America in terms of moral, mental, economic, and social development. Hemendranath Mazumdar, popularly referred to as Hemen Mazumdar, was born 1894 in Gachihata village of Mymensingh district, which is currently part of Bangladesh. Coming from a relatively wealthy landowning family, at the age of sixteen, Hemen dropped out of school and ran away to Calcutta to pursue his passion for painting. He enrolled at the Government College of Art in 1911, but left in 1912 for another institution, Jubilee Art Academy. By 1915, he left Jubilee Art Academy to start earning his living through portrait painting. Abanindranath Tagore’s coterie had banished any artist following the western academic approach. วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาวิวัฒนาการละครในตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน 2) ศึกษารูปแบบการแสดงละครใน เรื่อง อิเหนา ยุคกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ซึ่งผู้วิจัยศึกษาข้อมูลจากเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้อง สื่อวีดิทัศน์ การสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ การสังเกตวิธีการแสดงละครใน โดยมีขอบเขตของการศึกษา คือ 1) ศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมาและวิวัฒนาการที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแสดงละครในตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาจนถึงกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ 2) ศึกษาลักษณะการแสดงละครในแบบหลวงเรื่องอิเหนา ซึ่งถ่ายทอดจากอดีตจนถึงปี พ.ศ. 2559 ที่ปรากฏในการแสดงของสถาบันบัณฑิตพัฒนศิลป์และกรมศิลปากร กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม ผลการวิจัยพบว่า คำเรียก“ละครใน"ปรากฏหลักฐานในสมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ แต่เดิมจะเรียกชื่อต่างกันไป ทั้งคำว่า ละครในบริรักษ์จักรี, ละครหลวง, ละครผู้หญิง, ละครข้างใน แต่มีความหมายเดียวกัน คือ หมายถึงละครผู้หญิงที่ใช้นางในราชสำนักมาฝึกหัดเป็นผู้แสดงและอยู่ในความอุปถัมภ์ของพระมหากษัตริย์ หลักฐานที่เกี่ยวกับละครในพบครั้งแรกในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาจากบุณโณวาทคำฉันท์ โดยกล่าวถึงการแสดงละครในเรื่องอนิรุทธและอิเหนาซึ่งเป็นละครในบริรักษจักรี แปลว่าละครของพระมหากษัตริย์ เมื่อกรุงศรีอยุธยาต้องเสียแก่พม่าในปี พ.ศ.2310 ส่งผลให้ละครของหลวงต้องแพร่กระจายไปที่ต่างๆ บางส่วนได้ถูกกวาดต้อนไปยังประเทศพม่าจนเกิดรูปแบบละครโยเดีย ครั้นสมัยกรุงธนบุรีละครในจะเรียกว่าละครผู้หญิงซึ่งมีทั้งของหลวงและของเจ้านครฯ โดยได้รับพระบรมราชานุญาตจากสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสิน สมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์รูปแบบละครในมีรูปแบบเปลี่ยนแปลงไปหลายสิ่งที่เห็นได้ชัดคือในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 อันเป็นยุคฟื้นฟูบ้านเมืองรวมไปถึงงานศิลปะอย่างละครใน ได้มีการรวบรวมจัดทำ“ตำรารำ"ที่มีมาแต่ครั้งกรุงศรีอยุธยาเพื่อให้เป็นสมบัติชาติ ครั้นถึงรัชกาลที่ 2 ได้มีการพระราชนิพนธ์บทละครขึ้นใหม่เพื่อใช้สำหรับเล่นละครใน โดยทำการซ้อมและปรับปรุงกระบวนท่ารำให้สอดคล้องกลมกลืน ตัวละครหลวงในยุคนี้ได้เป็นครูละครให้คณะต่างๆในชั้นหลัง ส่งผลให้รูปแบบละครในยุคนี้ได้เป็นแบบอย่างละครรำในระยะต่อมา ต่อมาใน สมัยรัชกาลที่ 4 ได้มีการยกเลิกข้อห้ามเกี่ยวกับละครใน ทำให้ผู้มีบรรดาศักดิ์พากันมีละครตามแบบอย่างของหลวง จะเห็นได้ว่า สิ่งสำคัญที่ส่งผลต่อวิวัฒนาการละครใน คือ นโยบายและรสนิยมของพระมหากษัตริย์หรือผู้นำในแต่ละยุค รวมทั้งป๎จจัยภายนอกทั้งอิทธิพลต่างชาติ สภาพเศรษฐกิจและสังคมในแต่ละยุคสมัย รูปแบบของละครในแบบดั้งเดิมนับเป็นรากฐานที่พัฒนาและก่อให้เกิดปริวรรตไปสู่รูปแบบการแสดงละครในยุคต่อมาอย่างละครดึกดำบรรพ์ อีกทั้งยังต่อยอดไปถึงการสร้างสรรค์งานนาฏยจารีตต่างๆดังเช่นในป๎จจุบันอีกด้วย

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการศึกษาดังนี้ 1) เพื่อศึกษาพัฒนาการการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมในประเทศไทย 2) เพื่อศึกษาพระอัจฉริยภาพด้านการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โดยพิจารณาการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมทั้งที่เป็นบทวิจารณ์และการสร้างสรรค์นาฏกรรมในฐานะการวิจารณ์ ภายใต้กรอบแนวคิดประวัติศาสตร์นิยมใหม่ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พัฒนาการการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมในประเทศไทยในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์พบว่า เดิมการวิจารณ์ของไทยปรากฏในการสร้างสรรค์นาฏกรรมเพื่อวิพากษ์วิจารณ์บุคคลและปรากฏการณ์ทางสังคมหรือผลงานสร้างสรรค์ของผู้อื่น มักใช้ลีลายั่วล้อ ต่อมาการปฏิรูปการศึกษาของไทยทำให้คนไทยรู้จักการวิจารณ์ในวัฒนธรรมลายลักษณ์โดยได้รับอิทธิพลจากตะวันตกทำให้เกิดการเขียนบทวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมขึ้น เริ่มจากการสื่อระหว่างบุคคลจนพัฒนาไปสู่การเขียนบทวิจารณ์ในสื่อสาธารณะ ในระยะต้นปรากฏในสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์เป็นหลักและค่อยๆ เสื่อมความนิยมลง ปัจจุบันการเขียนบทวิจารณ์ปรากฏในสื่อใหม่มากขึ้น นอกจากนั้นลักษณะการวิจารณ์ยังปรากฏในการมอบรางวัล การประกวดแข่งขัน การกำหนดกฎเกณฑ์ในหลักสูตรและการประเมินคุณวุฒิของบุคลาการในวงการศึกษา ในด้านพระอัจริยภาพด้านการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ปรากฏ 2 สถานะ ได้แก่ 1) บทบาทผู้เขียนบทวิจารณ์ 2) บทบาทผู้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานในฐานะการวิจารณ์ พระราชวิจารณ์ของพระองค์อาจเป็นต้นเค้าของการเขียนบทวิจารณ์ในสื่อสาธารณะ มีส่วนช่วยให้เกิดความรู้ความเข้าใจนาฏกรรมทั้งของไทยและของเทศแก่พสกนิกร พระองค์ทรงเป็นผู้หนึ่งที่ริเริ่มการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานแนวใหม่ในลักษณะผสมผสานระหว่างนาฏกรรมแนวเดิมและนาฏกรรมแบบตะวันตก ทรงใช้ผลงานของพระองค์ในการวิพากษ์บุคคล เหตุการณ์สำคัญ มักใช้ลีลายั่วล้อเสียดสีเพื่อสร้างความขบขันและลดความรุนแรงในการวิจารณ์ นับเป็นความพยายามของชนชั้นนำสยามในยุคนั้นที่ประสงค์จะสร้างมาตรฐานใหม่แก่วงการนาฏกรรมไทยที่เน้นการนำเสนอสาระควบคู่กับความบันเทิง บทบาทการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระองค์นับเป็นช่วงหัวเลี้ยวหัวต่อที่มีความสำคัญยิ่งต่อทิศทางการสร้างและการเสพนาฏกรรมไทยในระยะต่อมา

The purpose of this study was to systematically review research on the relationship between parent engagement and student reading outcomes in Title I schools at Kindergarten level. The following research questions guided this study:

1. What is the relationship between parent engagement and student reading literacy outcomes in low socioeconomic students in kindergarten? Findings show that parent engagement brings parents together with the school staff working with one another to promote a child’s reading literacy. This study explored the role religious belief and practice played amongst Jewish, female inmates during their incarceration. A group of ten correctional chaplains who work with Jewish, female, inmates and a comparison group of ten chaplains who work with Protestant, female inmates were interviewed. The study determined the reasons for and benefits of religious observance among these inmates and included assisting in dealing with fear, providing a sense of peace, and deceitful motives for personal gains. Religious practice also assisted inmate populations in healing from trauma, improving self-respect and self-esteem, building support systems, and additionally for Jewish, female inmates constructing …

This poster presents initial findings from an exploratory, qualitative study investigating the health information practices of LGBTQ+ communities in South Carolina (SC). Significant health disparities exist between LGBTQ+ people and their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts. An important but under-researched barrier producing disparities is informational, as LGBTQ+ people face challenges in learning about their healthcare needs, navigating the healthcare system, and overcoming barriers to care. Although healthcare providers’ decision-making is informed by data and proto­cols for care, recent research suggests that individuals’ intuition—which integrates previous experiences with situational awareness and sensory knowledge—also plays a large role in directing action. Drawing on two different datasets from research on EMS providers and nurses in clinical nursing simulations, this article intro­duces a taxonomy for the various cues that trigger intuitive action and unpacks how intuition manifests at different stages of care. We argue that healthcare providers rhetorically navigate a wide range of both external and internal intuitive cues, and that external cues draw on sensory engagement with bodies, …

In her groundbreaking monograph, Daisy Yan Du offers a rigorous discussion of Chinese animation by highlighting the historical course of Chinese animation and how animated filmmaking contests the notion of nationhood and opens up a spatialized conception of intercultural encounters and collaboration. The book contains a theoretical introduction essay, four substantial chapters, a concise epilogue, and three appendices on animated films by Mochinaga Tadahito, on leaders of Shanghai Animation Film Studio, and on major publications on Chinese animation. In early December 2018, the Hungarian parliament passed a series of sweeping laws with major constitutional implications. The parliamentary session itself was something of a circus. In order to pass the law, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government was forced to disregard rules of the chamber that would have allowed the opposition to derail the legislation with parliamentary maneuvers. In protest, the opposition sounded bullhorns in Parliament while throwing confetti, before walking out. การพิมพ์ฉลากสินค้ามีจุดประสงค์หลักเพื่อโฆษณาสินค้าให้ดึงดูดความสนใจจากผู้บริโภค ดังนั้นการพิมพ์สีพิเศษนอกจากการพิมพ์สอดสี CMYK จึงมีความจำเป็นอย่างยิ่ง โดยสีพิเศษนี้จะต้องได้รับการผสมและเทียบสีกับสีตั้งต้นมาตรฐานที่ได้จากเจ้าของผลิตภัณฑ์หรือผู้ออกแบบ ขั้นตอนวิธีของกระบวนการผสมและเทียบสีใช้วิธีลองและวนทำซ้ำ เป้าหมายของกระบวนการคือ ความรวดเร็ว ความเที่ยงตรงและแม่นยำ งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบประสิทธิภาพการทำนายสีหมึกพิมพ์ยูวีเฟล็กโซกราฟีบนฉลากพอลิโพรพิลีนโดยใช้โครงข่ายประสาทเทียมแบบ Multilayer perceptron (MLP) และโดยใช้ซอฟต์แวร์ทำนายสีเชิงพาณิชย์ ฐานข้อมูลหมึกพิมพ์สำหรับใช้การทำนายสูตรสีของทั้ง 2 วิธีมีความแตกต่างกัน แต่เกิดจากสีปฐมภูมิ 8 สีเหมือนกัน สำหรับซอฟต์แวร์ทำนายสีเชิงพาณิชย์นั้น ใช้ฐานข้อมูลหมึกพิมพ์ที่เตรียมจากสีปฐมภูมิ 7 สีนำมาเจือจางด้วยมีเดียมให้มีความเข้มข้น 8 ระดับ (รวมความเข้มข้นที่ 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์) แล้วนำมาพิมพ์บนฉลากพอลิโพรพิลีน จากนั้นวัดค่าการสะท้อนแสงเพื่อนำไปคำนวณสัมประสิทธิ์การดูดกลืนแสงและสัมประสิทธิ์กระเจิงแสง สำหรับโครงข่ายประสาทเทียมแบบ MLP ใช้ฐานข้อมูลหมึกพิมพ์ที่เตรียมจากการผสมสีปฐมภูมิ 2 สีเข้าด้วยกัน (จากทั้งหมด 7 สี) ให้เป็นสีทุติยภูมิที่สัดส่วนต่าง ๆ กันเป็นจำนวน 159 สี และสีตติยภูมิที่เกิดจากการผสมสีปฐมภูมิ 3 สีที่สัดส่วนต่าง ๆ กันเป็นจำนวน 105 สี จากนั้นพิมพ์ลงฉลากพอลิโพรพิลีน และวัดค่าการสะท้อนแสงเช่นเดียวกัน จากนั้นสุ่มฐานข้อมูลสี 80 เปอร์เซ็นต์มาฝึกสอนโครงข่ายประสาทเทียม (training set) โดยมีการปรับเปลี่ยนจำนวนยูนิตซ่อน (hidden unit) เพื่อความเหมาะสม จากนั้นทดสอบการทำนายและเทียบสีโดยใช้ทั้งซอฟต์แวร์ทำนายสีเชิงพาณิชย์และโครงข่ายประสาทเทียม ด้วยชุดสีทดสอบจำนวน 15 สี เปรียบเทียบค่าความต่างสี (ΔE*94) ระหว่างชุดสีทดสอบและสีที่เกิดจากการทำนาย เปรียบเทียบเวลาที่ใช้ในการเตรียมฐานข้อมูลและต้นทุน พบว่าการทำนายสีด้วยวิธีโครงข่ายประสาทเทียมมีความแม่นยำในการทำนายสีดีกว่าเนื่องจากค่าความต่างสีน้อยกว่า แต่มีข้อเสียคือใช้เวลาในการเตรียมฐานข้อมูลมากกว่าจึงส่งผลให้มีต้นทุนที่สูงกว่า ในขณะที่ความรวดเร็วในการทำนายสีใกล้เคียงกัน

งานวิจัยเรื่องกรรมวิธีการสร้างผืนระนาดทุ้มของช่างฉะโอด บุญขันธ์ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากรรมวิธีการสร้างผืนระนาดทุ้มและปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพผืนระนาดทุ้มของช่างฉะโอด บุญขันธ์ โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากรรมวิธีการสร้างผืนระนาดทุ้มมีลักษณะเฉพาะที่สำคัญ คือ 1. การเลือกไม้ไผ่ตง ใช้ไม้ไผ่ตงที่มีเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางอย่างน้อย 8 นิ้ว ไม่มีตำหนิและมีผิวไม้ไผ่ที่สวยงาม 2.การคัดไม้ไผ่ ต้องมีข้อทั้งสองข้าง 3. การวัดความกว้าง ความยาว และความหนาของลูกระนาดทุ้มต้องมีสัดส่วนที่พอดี 4.การหาตำแหน่งร้อยเชือกจะใช้นิ้วเคาะหาตำแหน่งที่ลูกระนาดทุ้มดังที่สุด 5.การเจาะรูร้อยเชือก จะต้องมีความกว้างของรูพอดี 6.การปาดท้องลูกระนาดทุ้ม ต้องไม่กว้างจนเกินไป 7.การติดตะกั่ว จะต้องใช้ปริมาณที่เหมาะสม กรรมวิธีดังกล่าวส่งผลให้ผืนระนาดทุ้มของช่างฉะโอด บุญขันธ์มีอัตลักษณ์ที่สำคัญคือ การปาดท้องลูกระนาดทุ้มมีลักษณะโค้งเหมือนพระจันทร์ครึ่งเสี้ยว การเจาะรูกลมใต้ลูกระนาดทุ้ม ขนาดของผืนระนาดทุ้มมีความยาวทั้งผืน 105 เซนติเมตร ส่วนปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพผืนระนาดทุ้ม เป็นผลจากประสบการณ์ของช่างฉะโอด บุญขันธ์ ที่ได้สั่งสมจากอาชีพช่างโดยเฉพาะช่างไม้ อีกทั้งความประณีตและความพิถีพิถันในทุกขั้นตอนของการสร้างผืนระนาดทุ้ม และการพัฒนาฝีมือโดยใช้วิธีทดลอง ทำซ้ำ และคิดค้นวิธีใหม่ ๆ อยู่เสมอ จนเป็นอัตลักษณ์ผืนระนาดทุ้มเฉพาะตน
