The participation of women in specific subfields of computer science (CS) and information technology (IT) will be investigated to determine the existence of any trends that may exist indicating special interest amongst women. Specifically, the subfield of database administration will be considered to determine if women tend to enter this subfield more frequently than other subfields. Research will also acknowledge statistics regarding male participation in database administration and other relevant subfields to determine if any trends in women’s participation are unique to women or if they exist across the board. The year 2018 marked the centennial of the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, one of the deadliest outbreaks of disease in recorded history. To acknowledge the social impact of illness on humanity, and to highlight how historical research can shape our knowledge of medicine and the health sciences at a time when those fields of study are expanding here at Seton Hall, the History Department is hosting a two-day symposium on disease and wellness in historical perspective. The original Constitution for California was adopted at the California Constitutional Convention on October 10, 1849, and ratified on November 13, 1849. The United States Congress in 1848 failed to set up any government for California either territorial or state, and adjourning early in 1849 without taking any action. BVT Brigadier-General Bennet Riley, then the Military Governor, issued a proclamation calling for the establishment of a state constitution or a territorial government. A new constitution was adopted in 1879.

The Texas Heart Institute Film Collection contains 277 reels of 16mm film and 86 videotapes. It consists of final distributed films as well as work prints, camera original footage, and other production elements. Video tapes of film transfers can also be found in the collection The majority of films were produced within the Texas Medical Center. This collection contains films related to heart surgery at the Texas Medical Center, primarily during the 1960s and 1970s. Films are typically instructional with brief surgical and case histories at the beginning. The films follow the surgery step-by-step with voice over narration and diagrams …

If you seek a conclusive answer to the question that seems to anchor Chas Smith's Cocaine + Surfing: A Sordid History of Surfing's Greatest Love Affair, "Did surfing and cocaine start together in Peru and never leave each other's embrace?," you will be disappointed. In his preface, Smith discusses the death of Andy Irons, the three-time world surfing champion from Hawaii who died November 2, 2010, alone in a Dallas hotel room of cardiac arrest brought on by cocaine abuse. Charged Spaces: Navigating Complex Exhibition Content For University Audiences, Craig Hadley, Alexandra Chamberlain

This paper explores some of the ways in which academic museums navigate politically charged conversations on campus, specifically addressing public programs, curatorial strategies, and administrative brokering. The authors discuss the complexities of collaboration and academic freedom when tackling such sensitive topics, and discuss lessons learned from a recent exhibition case study. This text is largely adapted from a panel presentation first delivered at the 2018 Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG) Annual Conference at the University of Miami.

Data Diving Into “Noticing Poetry”: An Analysis Of Student Engagement With The “I Notice” Method, Scot Slaby, Jordan Benedict

Journal of Inquiry and Action in Education

This paper explores students’ engagement in reading poems, examining data on their self perceptions of their confidence and competence in reading poems before, during, and after using the “I Notice” methodology as adapted from The Academy of American Poets’ unit plan, “Noticing Poetry” (Slaby, 2017). The data was collected over the course of a month from January 9 through January 30, 2018 and involved five classes of one hundred general English tenth grade students across three teachers’ classrooms at Shanghai American School’s Puxi High School Campus.
