Madre Tierra, Christine Sloan Stoddard
Madre Tierra, Christine Sloan Stoddard
The Crambo
“Madre Tierra Projection” is part of a series I began imagining while working at an international school in Gowanus, a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. I’m interested in the ties between the idea of “motherland” and “Mother Earth,” which in Spanish are the same words; you simply the reverse order. Being immersed in Spanish while working at that Gowanus school made me think a lot about my mother’s native language and my relationship with Spanish as the language of the “motherland.” The historically industrial environment of Gowanus often makes me think about climate change, too. I can’t help …

The Spare Bedroom
What does it feel like behind that door
at the end of the hall, in that nosebleed
section of the house? No matter how small,
we fill our extra corners with fake ferns
and peace lilies, a lonely aloe vera plant.

History, Politics, And Religion In The Life And Compositions Of Sahba Aminikia, Sinella Aghasi Moshabad
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Sahba Aminikia is an Iranian-American composer who was underrepresented in his home country. He was born into a family with Baha’i faith only two years after the Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979. The consequences of the revolution brought several challenges for him as a musician and a religious minority. Aminikia was deprived of the right to further his education, so he first moved to Russia, and later on, immigrated to the United States where he received his master's degree in composition. The research is focused on the analysis of the two pieces titled One Day; Tehran(2010), and Shab …
Modes Of Cartoon Corporeal Performance, Gregory Langner
Modes Of Cartoon Corporeal Performance, Gregory Langner
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation project works to introduce and interrogate a phenomenon I am calling cartoon corporeality. The phenomenon refers to the varied ways in which cartoons “escape” their usual two-dimensionality through performance, appearing to manifest in physical environments in ways that should be understood as culturally impactful. Cartoon corporeality encompasses different modes of performance wherein the explicit visual presence of a cartoon subject informs an immediately observable physical impact through the body of the performer. I interrogate the phenomenon by focusing on four select modes of cartoon corporeal performance: videogame play, cosplay, theatrical adaptation, and the active weaving of cartoons …

Counseling and Family Therapy Scholarship Review
Presented before you are a collective of raw, untamed poetic thoughts from my experiences as a Youth Treatment Counselor. In writing this personal narrative I have been able to let the inner turmoil of my soul soar with peace once more. You will discover how invalidation from supervisors and staff can quickly leave you at a standstill, being left to feel alone. My goal for writing this piece has been to create mental metaphors for others in the field who built up walls as a form of self-preservation, to feel comfort when there is no end. I hope my honesty …

In ‘The Bartered Body,’ George Greenia disentangles the complex desires and experiences of religious travellers of the High Middle Ages who knew the spiritual usefulness of their vulnerable flesh. The bodily remains of the saints housed in pilgrim shrines were not just remnants of a redeemed past, but open portals for spiritual exchange with the living body of the visiting pilgrim.

Currently, there is a rapid process of globalization in all spheres of social life, including in the field of national languages and mercilessly endangers the leveling of national cultures and values. In such conditions, each nation should take care of the future of its language and strive to preserve the social function of the language. Otherwise, in the near future, both the language (the culture) and the nation itself will lose their national identity and even existence. Language is the key to all scientific and technological progress. To this end, we must collect the vocabulary of all the works of …
