American protest music has been a prominent and acknowledged art form since the 1930’s and has affected many artists both positively and negatively. I aim to examine what about protest music and society’s consumption of it has changed, for better or worse, over the course of its existence. To do so, I will be looking at the lives and works of 3 women who were actively involved in music of protest spanning the existence of the genre, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Janelle Monae.

Dementia currently affects over 35 million people worldwide – a number that is expected to triple by the year 2050 according to the report, “Dementia: a public health priority” by World Health Organization and Alzheimer’s Disease International. Despite the high population of people with dementia, there are currently no cures for the diseases within this category. The aim of this article is to explore the cognitive effects of incorporating music into daily life prior to the onset of dementia and determining whether or not these effects have an impact on age-related cognitive decline. Musicology and Ethnomusicology: Student Scholarship
Music Educators find themselves ill prepared and overwhelmed during their first years of teaching for a number of reasons. Due in part to this issue, less priority is placed on string bass education for pre-service teachers. The implications this are a consistent neglect of string bass players and instruments from emerging teachers resulting in loss of students and inventory. Originally noticed in Denver Public Schools, this article will seek to identify this problem as systemic, provide scope, and offer solutions toward correcting it.

The purpose of this bibliography is to provide resources for further research into the adverse effects that the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 has had on music education in terms of funding, enrollment, and policy enactment. The ultimate goal of this is to better understand how broad policy can influence individual communities so that practical solutions for overcoming such obstacles may be better solidified and enacted by the public.

Electronic Dance Music, or EDM, is a genre of music that has enjoyed success. Although it grew out of art music in the twentieth century, EDM is considered popular music. But, is the future of EDM confined only within popular music or is there potential for it to influence or become art music? There are many reasons why film and media scholars ought to take merchandise seriously. That filmrelated merchandise is a lucrative part of the film business is only a starting point, but still a good place to start. In 2018, character and entertainment licensing accounted for 44.7% of retail sales of licensed merchandise, generating $121.53 billion in sales. [1] [#N1] This earned entertainment companies approximately $6.2 billion in royalties. [2] [#N2] Not surprisingly, five of the top ten licensors are entertainment companies, with Disney positioned at the top with $53 billion in merchandise sales. I stood in front of my class of sophomores, paper in hand, ready to share a poem with them. They had grown used to me sharing poems by that point. At the start of each class, I would stand in front of them and read aloud a poem written by one of many famous poets. However, this day was different. We were starting a new unit—poetry—and I had high expectations for my students. Politics, Eugenics, And Yeats’S Radio Broadcasts, Melissa Dinsman

Much has been written about the right-wing politics and eugenicist sympathies of Yeats’s late-1930s poetry in general and about On the Boiler in particular. Yeats’s focus on Ireland’s degeneration and his calls for its regeneration through cultural (and even biological methods) coincided with his dalliance with the Irish Blueshirts and his frustrations with the transformations of the Irish Free State under Éamon de Valera. However, these years also proved to be Yeats’s most active in terms of radio broadcasting, with six of his nine broadcasts made between 1937 and 1938. When people listen to a musical performance, they normally use their ears as their main source of intake for the music. How about when people watch a performance live? Do the ears have as big of an intake as visual cues? I would like to determine the specific cues that people observe while watching a musical performance in order to deem it successful. The concept of meter in music has changed throughout the centuries and many related terms and concepts (such as bar, time signature, tactus and prolatio) have either emerged or disappeared from the vocabulary of the professional musician according to the mindset of each period. Consequently, the understanding of metric organization in Renaissance music by modern musicians is compromised, and so are modern editions of said repertoire, which are based in modern music notation. One of the pinnacles of performance practice is that of creating a recognizable, individualistic sound. There are differing opinions on this matter in relation to how a trumpet sound is formed and changed through both player technique and equipment setup. The purpose of this study is to take an objective point of view on the matter, using what others have said as well as the science of sound production on the trumpet, to find a window in to how players use technique and equipment to their advantage in creating the sound they desire.
