Hume On Mental Representation And Intentionality, Jonathan David Cottrell

The past two decades have seen an explosion of literature on Hume’s views about mental representation and intentionality. This essay gives a roadmap of this literature, while arguing for two main interpretive claims. First, Hume aims to naturalize all forms of mental representation and intentionality, i.e. to explain them in terms of properties and relations that are found throughout the natural world (not just in minds) and that are not, individually, peculiar to representational or intentional things. Second, Hume holds that the passions are not representational, but do have intentionality extrinsically.

The pioneers’ journey across Nebraska was rough and ever changing, and the same can be said for the educating of Nebraskans on the state’s history. Since the centennial of Nebraska statehood in 1967, changes to the education of Nebraska history has made students metaphorically traverse over both rough, hilly topics and flat, grassy lessons. These changes can be seen by examining sources from various Nebraska schools dating back to the 1960s. The variety and pace of Nebraska history curriculum change throughout these schools is wild and varied, with periods of little changes between the decades to overarching changes in only …

Today, the University of Nebraska at Kearney Police Department is one of few unarmed campus police departments in the country. Even so, UNK PD is a certified police department with full police powers. Officers derive their authority from the State of Nebraska as Special Deputy Sheriffs, but only after graduating the State of Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center. Officers must also receive continual training each year to maintain certification. With that training and certification, UNK PD officers are obligated to maintain safety and security for all people and property at the university. Members of UNK PD are expected to enforce …

The Holy Roman Empire’s history in the heart of Europe was long and turbulent, with strong leaders such as Charlemagne and Otto the Great leaving deep and lasting impressions upon the Germanic people that resided within it. During the Renaissance, like much of the rest of the continent, this period and thereafter would be marked not by a ruler but by a common man. When people speak, they shape their mouths differently for different languages. It follows, then, that there are inherent differences in flutists’ playing based on their native language. In the case of teaching syllables—syllables that the flutist “says” while playing in order to achieve a certain articulation or embouchure formation, such as “tu”—this can become confusing. Therefore, it is important for flutists to study the pronunciation systems of foreign languages, in order to know how to correctly produce teaching syllables used by flutists and teachers of other cultures. The Shanghai Conservatory of Music owns a large collection of 'Oriental Musical Instruments' that are exhibited and stored in its museum. Every week, a gamelan class is held in order to promote the collection of instruments. Recently, scenes from the Dandaka forest of the Ramayana were put in a dance performance accompanied by students playing the large Javanese gamelan of the museum.
