專題展覽

1941年12月至1945年8月，香港在日本軍政府的統治下，經歷了三年零八個月的黑暗歲月。日軍不但以殘酷的手段管治香港，又強迫遣返市民歸鄉，加上糧食嚴重不足，導致不少市民無辜喪命。即使有幸生存的人，他們的生活亦苦不堪言。面對物資短缺、物價飆升，以及日軍的嚴密監管，大部分市民都過著三餐不繼、誠惶誠恐的生活。另一方面，為鞏固在港統治，日軍多方面施行日化政策，除了下令採用日式地名，還透過教育和政治宣傳等手段努力灌輸日本文化及價值觀念。 本展覽將會展示日治期間香港社會的狀況，以及市民的日常生活。

This study focuses on the application of dynamic assessment (DA) for pedagogical purposes. It is aimed at investigating how the students' English speaking skill could be improved through DA, which is grounded in Vygotsky's zone of proximal development (ZPD). The objectives of this study were (1) to investigate to what extent DA assists EFL undergraduate students to improve their English speaking skill, (2) to explore the students' perceived self-efficacy in their English speaking skill through DA, and (3) to examine the students' attitudes toward DA. The objectives of this study were: 1) to create and validate the tasks for measuring English oral proficiency in dispensing drugs of Thai pharmacy students, 2) to create and validate the rubric for measuring English oral proficiency in dispensing drugs of Thai pharmacy students, and 3) to establish the extent of this dispensing task's test-usefulness. The participants of this study are 2 informant specialists, 6 language instructors, 144 fifth-year pharmaceutical students of a university in Bangkok and 21 pharmacist experts. Readers Theater (RT) is a technique that has been used largely with elementary and middle school students (Corcoran, 2005; Keehn, Harmon, and Shoho, 2008) as a means of improving reading fluency. Few if any empirical studies have investigated the use of RT in building adult English language learners (ELLs) speaking fluency and accuracy. In this study, a series of RT scripts were developed and implemented with a group of low-intermediate level ESL learners. Pre and post-test quantitative and qualitative data were collected to determine the impact of RT on adult ELLs oral skills and self-confidence. A total of 12 ELLs …

During the fiscal crisis of the 1970s, New York City imposed deep budget cuts on the three library systems: the New York Public Library, the Brooklyn Public Library, and the Queens Borough Public Library. As the city cut budgets, the public demanded that libraries be kept open, and elected officials struggled to do both. The Queens Library’s staff was reduced from over 1,100 to barely 700, with branches open only two or three days a week, with one staff serving both. New buildings remained vacant because the library lacked funds to operate them. When the library proposed closing some branches, …

The leadership style found in government is usually diverse in nature, with the chain of command being top-down and focused on bureaucracy. There are some leadership styles that can adversely impact or vastly improve workplace performance. This descriptive phenomenological study was used to understand employee perceptions of leadership styles that affect their workplace performance. Bass's transformational leadership theory guided this study to explore how a supervisor's leadership style impacts an employee's workplace performance. The primary research question focused on positive and negative perceptions employees held related to supervisors' leadership behaviors and characteristics. The chapter examines fifty years of philosophers working on lying - from the 1970s to the current day – focusing on how lying is defined (descriptively and normatively), whether lying involves an intention to deceive (Deceptionists) or not (Non-Deceptionists), why lying is wrong, and whether lying is worse than other forms of deception, including misleading with the truth. This article presents results of auto-ethnography, literary analysis, and fieldwork research to answer an underlying, perhaps unresolved, concern, relevant to this dossier: how can we produce an ethical dialogue as transnational Black Feminists, among Black Brazilian women, and North American Black women, in an ethical manner, while realizing that one may (not ever) be a part of the “carnival without you in it.” Fertile Earth/ Terra Fertil tells a long overdue epic story to an audience within the poetry: Black women, family members, other times a Black man, Brazil, white women, or “you,” undefined. Secrets Vs. Lies: Is There A Moral Asymmetry?, James E. Mahon

In this chapter I argue that the traditional interpretation of the commonly accepted moral asymmetry between secrets and lies is incorrect. On the standard interpretation of the commonly accepted view, lies are prima facie or pro tango morally wrong, whereas secrets are morally permissible. I argue that, when secrets are distinguished from mere acts of reticence and non-acknowledgement, as well as from acts of deception, so that they are defined as acts of not sharing believed-information while believing that the believed-information is relevant, the correct interpretation of the commonly accepted moral asymmetry between secrets and lies is that secrets are …
