Omani Classical Poetry And Discourse Deviation, Hilal Al Hajri, Khalid Al Balushi
Omani Classical Poetry And Discourse Deviation, Hilal Al Hajri, Khalid Al Balushi
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
We argue in this paper that there are voices in Omani classical poetry that challenged the dominant cultural discourse and deviated from it. The paper is divided into two parts. Part one is mainly theoretical. We start by introducing Omani poetic discourse as one in which different voices compete. We then refer to literary theory to establish that poetry by definition challenges public discourse. Part two is practical. Taking what is established in Part 1 as our point of departure, we practically substantiate our claim by discussing excerpts from Omani classical poetry. We conclude by putting forward suggestions for further …
Administrative Detention And Its Objective And Procedural Warrantees: A Study Of The Jordanian Law, Saleem Hatamla
Administrative Detention And Its Objective And Procedural Warrantees: A Study Of The Jordanian Law, Saleem Hatamla
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
Personal freedom is the essence of human life. It is not created by legislation or laws. It is rather regulated by laws to reconcile its various aspects and achieve the common good of the community. It, therefore, does not accept restrictions except those that are necessary. The freedom of people should always be maintained; it is not permissible to arrest or detain any person except in accordance with the law. Accordingly, the Jordanian legislator was keen to put in place the procedural rules of administrative detention in terms of setting clear conditions for the practice of this detention and the …

Principles Of Arabic Noun Gender: An Overview Of Learning Difficulties, Abdulhamid Alaqtash, Amjad Talafha
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
Arab linguists have distinguished between the animate and inanimate gender of nouns, where the former was assigned a male or female natural gender and the later a grammatical gender, and so the distinction between the real natural gender and the figurative grammatical gender has spread widely in Arabic grammar. Educational studies and linguistic research carried out by educationalists and linguists have indicated the prevalence of two difficulties in teaching and learning the issue of grammatical gender. The first is related to distinguishing between masculine and feminine within the same sex; the other is related to the multiplicities in the structural …

Sudanese poets have different views of Egypt based on their culture and psychological makeup and literary approach. The conservative poets relied …
Prosodic Text Analysis Theory, Mohammed Gamal Sakr
Prosodic Text Analysis Theory, Mohammed Gamal Sakr
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
Within the field of poetic text linguistics, the theories of both text linguistics and prosodic linguistics have failed to reveal the nature of the creation of the poetic text and the way it is received by people. This necessitates adopting a new theoretical framework that combines the two approaches by focusing on nine norms: domain rules, length and separation rules, paragraph and sentence rules, phrases and words rules, and syllable and sound rules. These rules should be used by anyone who compares between different poetic texts on the one hand, and between poetic and non-poetic texts on the other.

Moreover, in terms of the coverage of GSL and AWL word lists, the textbooks fall short of the ideal range of 95% …

The Representation Of Masculinity And Its Reflections In The Short Narrative Discourse Of Badriya Al-Beshr, Nidal Al-Shamali
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
The short stories of the Saudi writer Badriya Al-Beshr focus on her constructive criticism of conventional social power that governs society. This is actually the most obvious feature of her short story collection that was published in 1993 and the other two collections, “Wednesday Evening” (1994) and “Cardamom” (2004). Social power, as Badriya Al-Beshr shows, is best demonstrated in different representations of masculinity which the researcher believes to be the key to understand intertextuality of the text and its deconstructive features. In this context, Al-Beshr faces usurpation by a counter usurpation; a usurpation through writing fiction which deprives her imaginative …

Modality With Past Time Reference In English-Into-Arabic Fiction Translation, Mohammed Farghal, Mashael Al-Hamly
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
Modality is a semantic medium that colors the way the language user views the world around him/ her in terms of certainty, necessity and obligation; hence, it places extra effort on the translator while attempting to capture modalistic shades of meaning. The task may become more challenging when the translator is dealing with a language pair where modality is grammar-oriented in one member (English, for example) and lexis-oriented in the other (Arabic, for example). The present paper aims to investigate the rendering of speaker participation in the speech event as embodied in modality when translating English fiction into Arabic. In …

Interdisciplinary Researches And The Progress Of Human Societies In The New Millennium: Practical Experiences And Futuristic Options, Hany Khamis Abdo
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
Interdisciplinary Research is a fertile ground for researchers in the modern era, as is represents the importance in the study of various phenomena of society and its issues and complex problems that need to cross the barriers and cognitive limitations among social and natural sciences. Thus, there emerged many significant semantic relationships between polysemy and various rhetorical tropes as metaphor, zeugma and periphrasis. This study endeavors to focus on kinds of potential correlations and continuum between aesthetical and semantic levels, in hidden discussion between the Nazm theory and the linguistics` new methods.
