Thierry’s series of eight large-scale paintings were inspired by her rediscovery of the “Water Lilies” landscapes by Claude Monet on view at the the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris. Summer Research Program
Poster complementing author's summer research project exploring the history of the Polish-American community of Worcester, Massachusetts centered on the parish of Our Lady of Czestochowa and how its members responded to the forces of Americanization. Research in area archives such as the Worcester Historical Museum, the Worcester Public Library, and at Our Lady of Czestochowa’s rectory and its parish school of Saint Mary’s, as well as oral history interviews with past and longtime members of the community test the assumption that the story of Worcester’s Polish community is one of loss and decline. On the contrary, Polish-American efforts to preserve …

A Classroom Experiment: Using Shared Shelf To Archive And Share Student Video Film Reviews, Victoria Longfield, C. Jeremy Barney
Faculty Presentations
The Hope College Library, as a participant in the CIC Consortium on Digital Resources for Teaching and Research, sought to extend the usage of Shared Shelf beyond a repository for local archival and art collections to a platform for faculty and student scholarship and creative output. Working with Dr. Lauren Janes (Assistant Professor of History), Tori Longfield (Digital Liberal Arts Librarian) proposed testing Shared Shelf for student use in the final course project for HIST 280: Modern Imperialism (Spring 2017). In collaboration with Jeremy Barney (Metadata and Digital Collections Librarian), a workflow was established to facilitate communication between the library …

Sino-Albanian Relations During The Cold War, 1949-1978 : An Albanian Perspective, Ylber Marku
Sino-Albanian Relations During The Cold War, 1949-1978 : An Albanian Perspective, Ylber Marku
Lingnan Theses
This thesis is an exploration from the Albanian perspective of the Sino-Albanian relations during the Cold War. Based on primary sources, I look at the Sino-Albanian alliance in the broader context of the Cold War, and international relations’ system. In particular, I explore this alliance as an asymmetric role-based Cold War alliance, in which Albania provided political support to China, whereas China provided economic and military support to Albania.
As a small country with little political leverage on the international stage, following the Second World War Albania became first a Soviet satellite and the Soviet outpost in the Southeastern European …

Promoting Intercultural Competence In Diverse U.S. Classrooms Through Ethnographic Interviews, Ekaterina Arshavskaya
Promoting Intercultural Competence In Diverse U.S. Classrooms Through Ethnographic Interviews, Ekaterina Arshavskaya
Languages, Philosophy, and Communication Studies Faculty Publications
To meet the demands of contemporary society, students needs to develop the ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures. To advance this goal, a project involving ethnographic interviews was introduced to an intercultural communication course. Participating students' attitudes toward other cultures were measured on a Likert scale at the beginning and end of the project. The findings show that through the interviews, the students developed greater awareness of their own cultures and of themselves within their culture and deepened their knowledge of other cultures. Yet, the majority of the students did not show greater interest in learning a …

漢魏六朝唐代詩賦中的音樂描寫研究, Zhou Cao
漢魏六朝唐代詩賦中的音樂描寫研究, Zhou Cao
Lingnan Theses
