This research explores intentional food practices and journeys of consciousness in a network of people in The Bahamas. Intentional food practices are defined as interactions with food chosen for particular purposes, while journeys of consciousness are cumulative successions of events that people associate with healing, restoration, and decolonization personally and collectively. This research examines (1) experiences and moments that influenced people’s intentional food practices; (2) food practices that people enact daily; and (3) how people’s intentional food practices connect to broader spiritual, philosophical, and ideological perspectives guiding their lives. This research followed hermeneutic tradition by examining what is often unquestioned in clinical practice as it pertains to the moral, political, and philosophical foundations that underlie the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (2002, 2010) and Standard 3.05, Multiple Relationships—it’s meanings and controversies. It did so in order to better understand the cultural influences reflected in and the political consequences that emanate from the Ethics Code. Ecofeminism has permeated the disciplines of politics, philosophy, science, and literature – all of which are embedded in the fiction of Barbara Kingsolver’s Prodigal Summer and Ruth Ozeki’s All Over Creation. In this thesis, I consider the authors’ use of scientific evidence to engage readers with their rhetorical goals of protecting the systems of nature and gender. In the first chapter, I define the history of ecofeminist activism and how Kingsolver and Ozeki continue its tradition. Steel Samba is a photographic mosaic exploration of four lift bridges connecting the east and west sides of Joliet, Illinois. Using the artist influence of Claude Monet’s 1872 image Le Pont de bois (the wooden bridge), I have created digital images of these bridges from many different views. The purpose of this series is to focus on these bridges: their history; their beauty; and how they move in sync to raise for waterway traffic almost in a dance formation.

Throwing clay on the potter·s wheel, I feel a wave of calm, like I am finally in control of something. Carving and creating texture on clay after a piece is thrown, is the ultimate release. Carving is obsessive, compulsive, and even ritualistic. Each mark that I make has a purpose or thought behind it. Disney’s recent “decanonization” of the decades-old Star Wars “Expanded Universe” in preparation for the release of The Force Awakens once again raises the question of the triangular relationship between the corporate ownership of intellectual property, the mainstream audience to whom the blockbuster films are addressed, and the much smaller hardcore fanbase whose loyalty sustains a franchise during its lean years. Through the three chosen British novels, Western colonialism in Southeast Asia can be seen in three major phases: colonialism at its peak, colonialism during its decline and colonialism at its transformation. This thesis propounds that the roles and statuses of the white male characters (Jim, John Flory, Thomas Fowler and Alden Pyle) are established through their interactions with other characters, most of whom are women. The roles and statuses of these Western protagonists and their interactions with the people residing in the region of Southeast Asia can be seen to reflect three phases of Western colonialism. Based on the Failed Functional Features Hypothesis (FFFH) (Hawkins and Chan, 1997), the current study aims at investigating L1 Thai learners' acquisition of the wh-operator movement in English open interrogatives. Two primary objectives included (1) to explore whether the wh-operator movement in English can be acquired by L1 Thai learners and (2) to account for the data by the FFFH. The current study aimed to investigate the frequency effects on the acquisition of L2 English infinitive and gerund complements among L1 Thai learners. The participants were first-year undergraduate students from They were categorized into the low and the high proficiency groups based on their CU-TEP scores. Each group consisted of 30 participants. Beginning in early 2014, the EU introduced and extended a range of smart sanctions against Russia in protest at Russian involvement in destabilizing Ukraine and violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity. By utilizing theoretical elements of constructivism with process tracing method, this thesis examines the influence of the EU's collective identity on smart sanctions imposed on Russia. The analysis finds that the EU's "collective identity" stipulated the "objective interests" and "subjective interests" to its actors and influenced the "actions" of smart sanctions by extending extra restrictive measures for Russian financial institutions to increase the cost of smart sanctions imposed on Russia. …

It was around the mid-nineteenth century that the guitar almost sank into oblivion due to the rising popularity of the piano. Fortunately, the art of guitar performance was still cultivated by certain figures residing mostly in Spain. One of them was the so-called 'father of modern guitar' - Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909), a guitarist who devoted all his life to bring back the legend and prestige of the instrument. This study aimed to investigate the effects of memory color on color perception of natural objects under different illuminations. A series of experiments were carried out and launched on the Internet through a website (https://memorycolor.net). Seventy-eight observers participated in the experiments. In Experiment 1, observers were asked to provide a typical color of five natural objects (blueberry, broccoli, salmon, sunflower and tomato) based on their memory. This thesis provides a comparative examination of nation branding strategies used by Japan and South Korea. Nation branding is a concept derived from consumer product branding, referring to the development of a nation-brand identity to improve a nation's reputation and image for global audiences. It has its origins in concepts such as public diplomacy, but reaches beyond these origins to incorporate a multidisciplinary and multifaceted set of commercial, cultural, artistic, and scientific images.
