The study was prompted by the need for the evaluation of current theological educational programs for preparing students to meet the many challenges of pastoral ministry in a rapidly changing world. However, to date there has been little published research addressing the effectiveness of undergraduate theological education. Furthermore, changes implemented in the theological education program at Southern Adventist University (Southern) have not been evaluated for their effectiveness for ministerial job preparedness.

Part I contains a literature survey in which I surveyed published material on the way Jesus' canonical masculinity is constructed in the context of Greco-Roman masculinities. Part II of this work is a case study analysis of the masculinity of Jesus as constructed by Marcus Borg and N.T. Wright in their book, The Meaning of Jesus. This paper will explore the legal implications of social norms and taboos surrounding both biological sex distinctions and sexuality in Ancient Athens. Robert Kitchener asserts that due to cognitive limitations, children under the age of 10 cannot think philosophically (Kitchener, 1990). This thesis examines a fourteenth century manuscript of the Roman d'Enéas, currently held at the Bibliothèque nationale in France, for significant textual changes against the other surviving manuscripts. Careful study of the manuscript exposed considerable modifications to characterization and genre. Examination of the textual changes present in the manuscript, BnF 60, revealed an amplification of female figures and subtle developments of romance elements. In BnF 60 most changes occur in the exposition and the revised ending. The writer of this version appears to draw from copies of both the Roman d'Enéas and Virgil's Aeneid. With a career spanning over four decades, Henry Fillmore earned wide recognition as an important and prolific composer of marches and trombone smears in the wind band medium. While he contributed significantly to chamber music, solo literature, vocal settings, and arrangements for band, his compositions for wind band have arguably provided his most universal acclaim. Fillmore’s published marches are unique in that scores rarely had performance markings and contained little more than notes and repeat signs. For the purposes of this research, I have examined examples of apocalyptic science fiction narratives as a subset of speculative fiction. Speculative fictions, science fiction in particular, move beyond the concrete realities of the “actual” world, opening up potentials for new ideas of reality, while examining those same realities in a way that interrogates what may lay beyond and within them. The speculative fiction genre includes science fiction, fantasy, horror, and magical realism. Focusing in on science fiction, we find narratives that move beyond our reality while keeping it in view. A Bayesian approach allows the incorporation of multiple evidence sources through prior probabilities, the tracking of changing evidence across time, and a principled means of adjusting evidentiary bars via Bayes factors.

Animal Sentience

Birch’s extension of the precautionary principle (PP) is plausible but raises issues about how proportionality ought to be incorporated into law. Following Steel (2013), I suggest that the PP is best considered as a meta-norm, and as such any resulting laws are likely to lack the fineness of grain that we would hope to achieve. To fill the gap, I suggest a parallel with the ethics of studying looted artifacts.

The focus of this study is on uncovering the underlying cultural assumptions, or Master Narratives, across four couples narratives that I elicited. I use Deborah Tannen's work and definitions to frame my analysis (2008). She identifies three narrative types: small-n narrative, the accounts of specific events or interactions that speakers said had occurred with one another; big-N Narrative, the themes speakers develop in telling about one another and in support of which they told the small-n narratives; and Master Narrative, the culture-wide ideologies shaping the big-N Narratives. It begins by defending explicit approaches to defining enhancements and sketches a tripartite conception of enhancements dependent on well-being, social, and perception approaches. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a common but poorly understood condition that includes limited exercise tolerance. Exercise undertaken via a balanced, holistic approach in which exertion is balanced with rest is recommended in recovery from CFS. This research project investigated how a contemporary dance-­‐training environment can/cannot support recovery from CFS. This investigation is significant given that fatigue, burnout and overtraining are prevalent in dance-­‐training environments. This portfolio consists of nine compositions and an accompanying commentary on each of the pieces. The earlier compositions represent the exploration of preoccupations with canon, counterpoint, and rhythmically-charged, pulsating mobiles. This led to the further research elements incorporating the development of rhythmic motifs and their proliferation, culminating in static sonic canvases, slowing the rate of harmonic change. Investigative research into the various gradations applied to amplitude levels, first explored in my electronic music and then applied in the form of dynamics in my acoustic writing, represents another highly-featured process in this thesis. 韓寒的散文寫作手法別樹一格。在1999年，韓寒參加新概念作文大賽即席創作，以〈杯中窺人〉一文奪下首獎。他自此踏上了散文創作之路，出版不同的散文集，如《通稿2003》、《飄移中國》、《青春》等。當網絡熱潮興起，他在博客發佈大量的散文，內容主題多樣，漸具個人寫作特色。而隨時間的推移亦可看出他的散文風格上有所轉變。

本文選取韓寒不同時期的散文集作研究對象，包括：《零下一度》、《通稿2003》、《青春》、《飄移中國》、《出發》和《我所理解的生活》，從語音、語匯、修辭和語法四方面，分析其散文作品寫作語言特色及變化。

首先有緒論作簡介，其後進入正文部份。正文第一節分析韓寒散文作品的語音的特色，第二節分析韓寒散文作品的詞匯使用上的特色，第三節分析韓寒散文作品的修辭特色，第四節分析韓寒散文作品的語法特色，第五節分析韓寒散文語言特色有以上變化的原因。最後為總結。

《粵音正讀字彙》反切注音商榷, Kwing Sheung Lam

現時坊間能夠找到的粵音字典眾多，當中對現時粵音影響最大的非《粵音正讀字彙》莫屬。此書記錄了一萬多個粵讀音，強調「正讀」，即是以《廣韻》的反切注音作為主要依據，每個音讀均配以反切，決不接受有別於「正讀」的常讀錯音。編者在處理繁多的反切注音時，偶有不慎而出現錯漏，這方面值得注意。

本文針對此書的三個可商榷之處作一綜合分析。第一、此書以配詞方式注音，音隨義異。但是一些音讀和字義未按照《廣韻》或其他韻書、古注所記的配對，出現甲音配以乙義，乙義配以甲音的情況。第二、此書一些反切及被切字的讀音非完全吻合；另外一些反切並未與韻書中字義的反切完全對應。第三、此書的異讀情況甚多，甚至一些異讀音已非為時下人所知，筆者認為沒有一一列出的必要。

合文又稱為合書，即指把兩個或以上的漢字合寫，構成一個文字單位。合文是古漢字中一種特殊但又常見的現象，在甲骨文、金文及戰國文字中都不難找到合文的蹤跡。與合體字不同，合文只在書寫層面上把文字結合起來，對其字音及字義均沒有產生影響及變化。

就目前現有的出土文獻顯示，合文的現象最早出現於殷商時期，更可謂大盛於戰國時期，及至秦漢時期，合文的數量才逐漸減少。而《甲骨文編》、《金文編》、《戰國文字編》、《古文字類編》等記錄古文字的專書，均有專闢「合文」一項，收錄了不同數量同時又為數不少的合文，足見合文於古文字發展中的重要性，而此類專書亦大大方便了後世對於合文的研究。因此，雖然現今合文的影響力已大不如前，但研究古文字合文的現象對了解漢字的歷史及演變就有很大的幫助。

縱使古文字合文的盛況難以再於現今社會出現，但有不少以合字書寫方式的文字仍然得以在現今社會流傳，如「招財進寶」這個為人所熟識的字，更有不少出自網上討論區的「合字書寫」創作，這種書寫方式與古文字合文的形式或多或少有相似之處。故本論文將先以甲骨文合文的例子作分析，探求合文的定義、結構、使用情況及衰微的原因，並將以現今合字書寫的例子作討論，研究合字書寫於現今社會的可行性。

馮小青本事戲曲改編 : 以《春波影》、《風流院》及《療妬羮》為例, Chi Wai Cheung

馮小青為明代才女，其流傳的詩文有十多首。十八而亡，早夭的小青為明清文人同情，在明清時期引起一股小青熱潮，多齣以小青為藍本的戲曲作品誕生，而《紅樓夢》的林黛玉一角，亦是受小青影響而成。 本文因而選取其中三齣最具代表性的戲曲作品——《春波影》、《風流院》及《療妬羹》，討論它們與小青本事的關係。從而分析戲曲史上小青故事及形象的流變。 本文主要分析《小青傳》和三種戲曲作品在情節安排以及人物形象塑造的差異。第一章為全文諸論。第二章分析《小青傳》中重要情節及人物形象。第三章依照第二章的分析，與三劇比較對照，分別出傳記與劇本在情節及人物上的差異。最後，本文比較三劇，分析三劇在改編上的共性以及差異。第四章分析三劇與《牡丹亭》重合之處。第五章為小青在劇中的形象分析。第六章為總結。

論《長生殿》楊貴妃的形象建構與主題思想的關係, Shu Ting Lau

《長生殿》寫唐明皇與楊貴妃生死情深的釵合情緣，李、楊的故事早已廣為流傳，《長生殿》並非先例，然而比較起前人的文學作品，洪昇在楊貴妃的人物形象塑造上明顯有其創新之處，加上洪昇在《長生殿》結局中以喜劇收場的處理手法亦有別於其他文學作品，因此本文集中比對歷來楊貴妃在史書、文學作品及《長生殿》中的人物形象，分析楊貴妃在人物形象上的演化，再結合《長生殿》中洪昇對於人物和結局上具新意的處理，從而剖析其主題思想。

本論文分為六個部分︰第一章為導言。第二章分析楊貴妃的歷史書寫。第三章從不同文學作品中剖析楊貴妃的文學形象。第四章從《長生殿》中疏理楊貴妃人物形象的演化軌跡。第五章則總結楊貴妃在《長生殿》中的形象而分析其改動與主題思想的關係。最後第六章為結語。
