2 Nephi 31 was written by Nephi as a grand finale to his small plates and was placed at the end to signal its premier importance. It is the centerpiece of his concluding sermon as signaled by a series of inclusios. It is presented as a flashback to the great vision received by both Lehi and Nephi in the first camp in the wilderness—over forty years earlier. But only here are we told for the first time that when Nephi witnessed the baptism of Jesus Christ in that early vision, he was simultaneously team-taught the gospel of Jesus Christ by …

The Violence Of Conversion: Proselytization And Interreligious Controversy In The Work Of Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Chad Bauman
The Violence Of Conversion: Proselytization And Interreligious Controversy In The Work Of Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Chad Bauman
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
Critics of Christianity in India have frequently accused Christianity of being a predatory, imperialistic religion with absolutist tendencies, and have framed Christian evangelism as an aggressive, uncouth act. More recently, however, and in an idiom that resonates with many contemporary Indians, Swami Dayananda Saraswati (1930-) has made the more controversial claim that the attempt to convert another person is itself an act of violence. In three parts, the paper 1) describes Dayananda’s claims, while bringing them into conversation with the arguments of earlier critics of Christianity (e.g., Mahatma Gandhi, Sita Ram Goel, Ashok Chowgule, Arun Shourie), 2) analyzes and critique …

Factors That Lead To Hospital Readmissions And Interventions That Reduce Them: Moving Toward A Faith Community Nursing Intervention, Deborah J. Ziebarth
Factors That Lead To Hospital Readmissions And Interventions That Reduce Them: Moving Toward A Faith Community Nursing Intervention, Deborah J. Ziebarth
International Journal of Faith Community Nursing
Abstract
Hospital readmissions affect over 80 percent of all Medicare enrollees. Hospitals have a responsibility to their Medicare patients to keep them safe after discharge in their homes and communities. With changes in the Medicare reimbursement model, hospitals are examining efficient methods of decreasing avoidable re-admissions. A Faith Community Nurse Transitional Care Program may be just the answer to improve patient’s discharge experience, ensure post-discharge support and reduce re-hospitalization.
Methods
In preparations for testing a Faith Community Nurse Transitional Care Program Model, a systematic integrative review was needed. Using PRISMA, a search was done, inclusion criteria identified, and articles retrieved. …

Examining Faith Community Nurses’ Perception And Utilization Of Electronic Health Records, Carole N. Mattingly, M. Eve Main
International Journal of Faith Community Nursing
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify current faith community nurse documentation practices, explore factors impacting intention to adopt electronic health records, and identify perceived barriers and benefits to electronic health record use among faith community nurses practicing in the Midwest. The technology acceptance model is used to examine impact of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of electronic health records on intention to adopt.
This study is a quantitative exploratory research study utilizing a cross-sectional researcher-developed 39-item questionnaire. Surveys were distributed by mail and e-mail to faith community nurses practicing in South-Central Indiana and Western Kentucky. …

In the very darkest corner, behind the davenport, there sat a little ice cube. Tears were dripping slowly, monotonously, hopelessly from its block-shaped face. The eerie moonlight peeped around the deserted room and revealed the most pitiful expression one could ever witness en the face of an ice cube. And the reason? The little ice cube was dying. Some careless reveler had flipped it out of a glass in one horrifying fling, and there it lay, in a state of inertia, awaiting the hideous death of an ice cube. Slowly, atom by atom, it was disappearing.

For a brilliant satire on humanity, I can think of no better author to turn to than Aldous Huxley. His rhetoric is flawless, his characters unbelievably typical, and his satire tinged with just the right amount of reality to render it plausible. Born in England, Mr. Huxley has no more mercy on his own countrymen than he has on those of other nationalities. His satire is universal and completely nonpartisan.

The gravel roads were just beginning to thaw on that early spring day, and each step we took splashed mud at my boots. Some early robins and some perennial sparrows were doing aerial acrobatics in celebration of the new season. William's eyes, however, were not following the birds' gyrations; nor were mine. While he was staring thoughtfully at the road, I was watching the attitude of his ears--watching because his ears are often indicative of his thoughts. At the time, as though he were mildly tolerant of the situation, they were in a reassuringly lax position, neither upright nor flat, …

The wind blew across the glazed surface of the frozen lake, intent upon entering a small cabin on the northern shore. After circling through the trees, glistening from the clean, white snow, the howling messenger of Aeolus descended, sending a wintry blast of air through a slightly opened window.
