4710 English Undergraduate Research: Children’s Literature

This essay, “He Said, She Said: The Boy’s Own Paper and The Girl’s Own Paper,” analyzes the difference in newspapers geared toward children of the nineteenth century. In closing, this essay will examine The Girl’s …

Wuthering Heights And Jane Eyre: Deadly Versus Healing Fantasy In The Lives And Works Of The Brontes, Jeanne Moose Mar 2013

Wuthering Heights And Jane Eyre: Deadly Versus Healing Fantasy In The Lives And Works Of The Brontes, Jeanne Moose

The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research

In lieu of an abstract, below is the article's first paragraph.

Dreams and fantasies provide humans with a means of escape from everyday reality. According to Sigmund Freud, dreams carry one "off into another world" (Strachey, 1900, 7). Their aim is to free us from our everyday life (Burdach, 1838, 499) and to provide us with the opportunity to fantasize about how we would like our lives to be or to imagine our lives as worse than they are so that we can cope with our current situation. Dreams can also serve as wish-fulfillments, or the embodiments of fear (Strachey, …

"Lestat, C'Est Moi": Anne Rice's Revelation Of Self Through The Vampire Chronicles, Kerry Kutzuba Mar 2013

"Lestat, C'Est Moi": Anne Rice's Revelation Of Self Through The Vampire Chronicles, Kerry Kutzuba

The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research

In lieu of an abstract, below is the article's first paragraph.

Brian Friel And The Conflict In Northern Ireland: How The Troubles Have Shaped The Playwright And Informed His Plays, Timothy Hayes

The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research

In lieu of an abstract, below is the article's first paragraph.

A conflict exists between the countries of Ireland and England stretching back over 800 years. Colonial in nature, the conflict has assumed many faces throughout its history. Evidence of its existence today is most noticeable in the situation in Northern Ireland, a situation euphemistically referred to as the "Troubles." The Irish people have been shaped by this conflict and Irish writers have often embraced it thematically within their works. Irish playwright Brian Friel is such a writer. Friel's plays frequently embody this conflict, both explicitly and implicitly.

Santeria: Its Growth And Changes As A Result Of Its Major Relocations, Michelle Kindler

The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research

In lieu of an abstract, below is the article's first paragraph.

Santeria is a religion native to Cuba. Santeria is a very spiritual religious way of life. Followers believe that everything has a spirit to it which must be honored and appeased in order to remain in that spirit's good graces. Each spirit, or orisha, has his/her own special likes, dislikes, colors, herbs, foods, dances, etc. These must be presented in order to honor the orisha. Santeria stems from the African religion Yoruba and was forced to come to the New World because of the slave trade. The Yoruba religion …
